I think "the plan" is stretching it. A plan, perhaps, but he seems from a distance like your typical summer league player. But maybe they'll see something I haven't yet. Perhaps they think they've uncovered the next TJ McConnell. Connelly did technically allude to him in his post-draft press scrum, so I guess he's not a total nobody.

The little I can find on him is that he seems to be a good passer and can shoot. 6'3 about 190 is what I'm finding.

I'm sure I'll be completely sold on him after about an hour of research, no worries...my database just takes a minute to load in these guys sometimes.

Somehow I missed that Newton was throwing lobs to Clingan and shooting deep threes in UConn

I've given up on getting hyped for these guys. The overwhelming majority of them don't amount to anything as there's a reason they go undrafted or don't go higher, and more specifically why they end up with us (nobody is going undrafted to play here, unlike say Reaves with LA).

He's a good passer but unathletic. Beyond him being white though, I don't see the comparison with McConnell. TJ is a rim pressure and rim finishing machine which drives his entire game. Fulton is more of a Ty Jerome if anything.

Since we're big on "the plan" around here, I am wondering the more I think about it if the plan this year could be to keep Rocco Zikarsky in Iowa all season long. I think he's a guy who just needs on-court reps, and lots of them. Then in his second year on the two-way contract, he could go back and forth more, depending on his development arc.

Jaylen Clark started out a two-year two-way as well, and used that first year to rehab.

This is going to get very politically complicated. His first statement as a coach was somewhat political in that he referenced Palestine but not Israel. The Canis Hoopus page discussing this broke down mostly into political discussion over Israel.

He is FROM Palestinian descent, not Israeli descent.

And for the record, I don't believe it was a statement he made recently, but rather back in 2022 that resurfaced on Canis after news of his hire.

I went back and checked you were correct about that being from 22-23. Which does change the context of the quote. It will be interesting to see what public comments he makes in the coming weeks and months.

2025 Vegas SL Stats: 16.2 PPG, 9.6 RPG, 2.0 APG, 71.8/55.6/64.5 Shooting Splits, 2.6 Stocks

Speaking of another No Ceilings favorite (courtesy of Maxwell Baumbach’s No Stones Unturned series), Enrique Freeman had one of the best runs this summer for a forward.

Many scouts and evaluators thought that Freeman could potentially blossom into a small-ball big man during his time in the NBA, but he actually proved that his best role is likely as an energetic four who can complement a rangy, stretch big. Freeman can help protect the basket from the weak side and rotate to cover ground, but he’s not a traditional big man as far as a deterrent in the lane.

Having his mobility though to help in the lane while also stepping out to contest shooters is a boon for any squad, and his defensive effectiveness and energy really popped both in person and on film. Freeman has a long track record of excellent positional rebounding going back to his days in college, and his touch from three-point range continues to steadily climb over time.

Freeman isn’t the type of mismatch forward you want consistently trying to create offense from the perimeter, but his ball-handling has improved enough that he can attack a closeout if needed. He’s a net positive in terms of his assist-to-turnover numbers, and quietly has a nice, well-rounded skill set for a power forward.

Freeman’s cutting, rolling, and transition finishing fit the fast-paced nature of Indiana’s program built around Tyrese Haliburton and Pascal Siakam. Add in any shooting and defensive upside, and it would be a total surprise if Freeman ended up anywhere other than with the Pacers next season. He nailed his summer assignment and passed with flying colors.

As I said before based on this I like Freeman fit next to Beringer and Rocco more than Leonard Miller.

Crazy thought...what if Freeman is actually the fourth big this year after Rudy, Julius and Naz?

Well. I think TJ should get all Minott minutes as pseudo big.

Some g-league stats:
Enrique Freeman
Leonard Miller

2025 Vegas SL:
16.2 PPG, 9.6 RPG, 2.0 APG, 71.8/55.6/64.5 shooting splits, 2.6 Stocks
17.0 PPG, 8.8 RPG, 0.8 APG, 50/17/69 shooting splits, 2.8 Stocks

Some g-league stats:
17.6 PPG, 10.2 RPG, 2.8 APG, 54/36/53 (???) shooting splits, 2.6 Stocks
25.2 PPG, 11.3 RPG, 3.8 APG, 50/31/80 shooting splits, 1.7 Stocks

At this point I would trade Miller for Daniss Jenkins. Give him Gupta special.

Beringer/Rocco-Freeman-Juzang-Jenkins-Newton - our g-league starting unit. Sign Alec Burks for vetmin

Gobert/Reid/Beringer + Rocco
Randle/McDaniels/TJ + Freeman
McDaniels/TJ/Clark/Ingles
Edwards/Clark/DDV/Burks
DDV/Conley/Rob/Jenkins + Newton

I agree. It's a crazy thought.

I don't mean for all 82 games, for the record. I just think that he fits as an older player who feels like he fits into how the team wants to play and I think he would be more prepared in case of emergency.

I imagine that they will stick with the trio only in 70% of games. Maybe the rest of those situations they'll turn to Beringer, but I also think Freeman might be more NBA ready today, even if his potential ceiling is significantly lower. The more I look into him, he reminds me a decent amount of Brandon Clarke. Would you be in favor of a Clarke-type player as the fourth man in a regular three-man rotation?

I think his addition is an indictment of sorts on what Minott couldn't bring here and what Miller hasn't brought here. I don't think it's a coincidence that it was a 25-year old NBA sophomore that they brought in for the potential role this season after two raw prospects in Miller and Minott have seemingly flamed out.

The Jo Bear needs NBA minutes. He doesn’t even need to play well, just to get experience. Naz is not a C and playing him at C is how we lost 29 games last year. That and not having a proper PG. But don’t worry as Dilly and Bones are on the case.
