Re: Official Liverpool FC Thread II
Folks,
We are the champions. We've spent big, though offset through sales of Kelleher, Quansah, Diaz, potentially Nunez and Elliott.
We were the underdogs last year; now the favorites for the upcoming season.
We are going to be the villains, especially if the deal for Isak happens.
I'm fine with it.

With Nunez exiting, surely another forward will be brought in.
cough... Isak... cough...
Additionally, Sky Sports reporting the deal is €65m with add-ons.

Looks like its official now. Best of luck to Nunez. He gave it a good attitude. Was very popular with the fans. I don't know what exactly it was...but it just didn't work. Some of it was definitely him....he'd make a mess of some real gimme's from time to time. That clinical top-level finish just wasn't there. I hope he gets it, and has a good career in Saudi. As long as he's not playing us....he has my support.

Certainly appears as if the club finally opened its wallet. But when you consider the outgoings, they haven't done much more than usual, especially if Elliott is sold.

Re: Official Liverpool FC Thread II
There is a part of me that doubts whether an Isak deal happens.
Newcastle United continue to drag their feet in terms of bringing in replacements. The closest link is Wissa, but he's more or less taking Wilson's spot. It could be one of those deals where time runs out, and the club goes with what it has.
The issue with that is the squad is clearly short in the attacking department. Losing Jota, Diaz and Nunez while the only incoming being Ekitike. In yesterday's Community Shield, once Eikitike was substituted, there wasn't much to offer.

I think it's a play by Isak to get more money from Newcastle, but we'll see.
It's time for 5 refs.

I can see Liverpool being interested in Adam Wharton but not for this window. Possibly one for next summer, maybe a double swoop for him and Guehi?

Wharton is one Liverpool has followed. I agree a move for him could be made next year.
Guehi, on the other hand, I believe happens before this window closes:

And it looks like LFC has stepped up their pursuit of Guehi. Such a move checks a several boxes -- homegrown, PL and international experience, upgrade on Quansah.

At least Gomez won't be the only CB backup. Hopefully, LFC and Crystal Palace can agree a fee on Guehi.

Re: Official Liverpool FC Thread II
I don't understand Liverpool's transfer policy this summer at all. Maybe internally they view Leoni as the successor to VVD, maybe they know Konate is gone at the end of his contract.
Still going for Isak after already signing a burgeoning young star in that position which would impede his trajectory.
Even as a rival fan, I really want it to happen just out of pure fascination.

With Leoni, I feel it's Liverpool trying to get out ahead for once. Normally, another club would take him off Parma and further develop him, only for LFC, in a couple years later, to then pay a much higher fee. With Hughes, who came from Bournemouth, running point, maybe he's just as certain of Leoni as he was with Huijsen. Obviously, it's a gamble.
The Konate situation is one to watch. I had originally thought LFC would be willing to let him play out his contract and leave on a free. However, with Leoni now in, and staying amongst the first team setup, and links to Guehi, the door is ajar for an exit this window.
As to Isak, you do know Ekitike played in a front two with Marmoush until he went to Manchester City? I imagine the club feels both could play together. And, of course, there will be times when it's just one or the other while Gakpo or Rio play LW.

Marmoush is a SS. It's like saying Alvarez played with Haaland, so you can you play two Haaland's together. Alvarez(/Marmoush) in that case is the flexible profile. Not the Ekitike or the Isak.
I think it'll be terrible for the morale of Ekitike anyways, unless he flat-out beats Isak for the spot but then it'd appear an unnecessary burning of funds, likely another English record fee.
You just can't reliably play both and accommodate Wirtz and Salah alongside Frimpong & it's poor dynamics for players that have all joined to start in all of the important matches.
Curious to see how Slot manages that though, and all of the personalities.
