Save Your Dog, Pick a Little Man: Paul, Iverson, or Stockton?

Post#1 » by Anderson Hunt » Thu Aug 14, 2025 3:35 pm

If you were trying to win a championship immediately to save your dog's life, and you had to start your team with one little man, who do you pick at their peak: Chris Paul, John Stockton, or Allen Iverson?

Keep in mind that you do not know which players will come to fill-out the rest of the roster. There's a possibility that you could fill out the roster with better players or the little man you pick could be your franchise player.

Paul and there has never been a better use of "it isn't even close".

Chris Paul if I’m building a team from the ground up.

Iverson if my dog is trying to sell jerseys

Stockton's the toughest man in NBA history, and is the best defender of those 3 players, and i trust him more than the others to not turn the ball over in big moments of big playoff games, so i go with Johnny.

I only have a cat.

I'll go with Stockton. If I can get some good offensive players he'll make things work. If I get a ball dominant player next to him it's still OK cause he can space too. He's not a liability on defense.

If I don't want to win I'll go with AI. If I get great players it's a hard fit. If I get good defenders and let him do what he did in Philadelphia odds say sooner or later he'll shoot the team out of the playoffs and average 30 PPG on 40ts%.

Chris Paul is also a nice choice but I never felt he had moments as great as Stockton's in the playoffs.

It depends on what you need. For pure firepower, go with Iverson. For playmaking, Stockton is the best, though Paul is a solid choice too. For defense, it's Stockton.

Paul is a meaningfully better defender than Stockton.

The one of the three options who never even sniffed a Finals appearance and it's not even close lmao that's amazing stuff truly

I would definitely choose Chris Paul first if I needed someone to cheap shot another player's crotch or to get beat up by Rajon Rondo but that's about it (and tbh Draymond has him beat in the groin shot category)

I can't trust that John Stockton won't get the measles or polio in the middle of a series or that his fear of the demographics of whatever city he's playing in won't affect him on the court

This is Allen Iverson by default

But also I'm just taking my dog and going home because this prompt is gross

I mean I think the fact that it's so easy for me to forget Chris was on that Phoenix team is pretty telling actually!

That team doesn't sniff winning a single playoff round without Chris Paul.

I feel bad for your dog if you'd even consider AI here. And I'm worried about your memory since CP3 just made the finals and was debatable the most important player on the team.

The first four teams Chris Paul played for in his career set franchise records for regular season wins during his time with them. It really isn't easy to forget if you're paying attention.

As for the thread, I'm probably accepting my dog's death. If I can assume Chris Paul will be healthy then that's my pick. If not, then I'm going with Stockton.

Well are you just taking him off the team, or are we assuming Phoenix fills that slot with a comparable guard?

Cause the distinction loses some meaning when we start to consider the fact that there were probably 5-10 guards in the league at that moment who could have helped that Suns team simply win a single playoff round

Heck the other two guys in this prompt could have done that

Maybe not Stockton actually cause he'd inevitably come down with a case of Rickets or something

Well, 25 less wins, 9 less wins, covid season but similar results, 22 less wins.
