Of course. Rubštavičius, Birutis or Blaževičius, one of guards

When I wrote the comment, I forget Rub6tavičius was even there. He is the most obvious cut.

Then I would cut Birtutis. There is not need to have him when Jonas is on a team, he is not bad, but Marek looks better anyway and he is at least more mobile.

Before camp, I thought Velička and Sargiūnas will be cut, but Sargiūnas looks good, I am very surprised, I was not familiar with him all that much, I only knew him from LKL finals. Velička also looks decent, I would honestly cut Giedraitis, he is just not that good.

So, if it was up to me, it would be Birutis, Giedraitis and Rubštavičius.

That said, coach could see it differently.

That's just the reality. There isn't a single eurleage level player on that team right now.

He should have played for Serbia. But I understand. Too bad though a Jokić Luka team would have won the Gold last year.

If Germany had trouble guarding a Sengun-Turkey team, they are gonna get stomped against a Jokic-Serbia team. They really don't have quality bigs in their lineup huh? I cant wait to see what Theis will try to do to stop Jokic....

It's because of when London hosted the Olympics in 2012. FIBA refused to just give them an automatic place as the tournament hosts, because they had such a poor history in the sport.

So FIBA demanded a certain set of criteria that the national team had to meet in terms of actual competitive results.

They did have for example the Welsh, Scottish, and English national teams, but they didn't think they were strong enough to meet any of the criteria. Northern Ireland competes with Ireland.

So they used a combined Great Britain team to qualify and were able to do so.

Uhmmm... No?

Until 1996 FIBA accepted certain nations sub-associations be (in spesifically mentioned cases) presented in their tournaments (which is why for example the Socialist Republic of Kazakstan could take part in FIBA tournaments when Soviet Union existed). In 1996 FIBA decided that would not be the case anymore (Olympic games in Atlanta were the last time there could be such sub-associations present in FIBA sanctioned tournaments).

In UK that caused a problem, because Basketball Great Britain had existed for a long time already (and the Basketball organisations of England, Scotland and Wales were (and still are) its sub-organisations), but Basketball North Ireland was not part of Great Britain Basketball (and didn't want to be in the future either). In the end (in 1999) FIBA made a ruling, that Basketball Great Britain represents the whole GB island, and Basketball Ireland reprsesents all of the island of Ireland; a ruling which left the basketballers from Northern Ireland miffed (I don't know if any Northern Ireland basketballers have to this day reprsented Ireland in any FIBA organised tournaments (to be honest, I don't know how big basketball is in Northern Ireland)).

That is why there is no UK (Great Britain & Northern Ireland) in international basketball, and why there is also no longer England, Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland in international basketball.
There are three kinds of people: Those who can count, and those who can't.

Theis looked almost totally washed up with Monaco in EuroLeague. He was slow and couldn't move his feet. He basically couldn't guard anyone.

Guards that could shoot from long range were often killing him on switches and he couldn't consistently keep opposing bigs from grabbing offensive rebounds. He was an absolute disaster on defense in the EuroLeague Final, with Fener's guards just torching him on switches.

If he plays anything like he did in EuroLeague, he could be a defensive liability for Germany against the better teams.

Could have really used Hartenstein this year (and going forward). Theis and Voigtmann (who didn't play yesterday) both lost a step or more. But a few good German bigs could come into the NBA in the next years.

Theis was often best Monaco player, in what universe was he washed rofl? Joining team mid season, he instantly became number one center of a team and averaged 11.7 points 5.5 rebounds in 22 minutes. and he had huge game in a playoffs vs Barca and great games just after joining the team. He is not super switchy as before, but if you compared him to Motiejunas, Papagianis and guys like that, guy was still a plus defender. I swear some things that guy says is just unbelievable. Theis is still great Euroleague caliber center and was big part why Monaco was in the finals, he is just undersized for monsters like Jokic.

I mean Theis looks washed. Cant they ask those U20 German bigs like Reibe and Stainbach. I mean they are probably inexperienced but at least they can probably move compared to Theis and Voighrman

Every place I look it says they joined FIBA in 1992 and can't find anything before that.

Was about to ask the same. Now national teams of Soviet Union republics existed, but to my knowledge only played amongst themselves and in friendly international games or tournaments

Fun fact: in 1978 Lithuanian NT played against US student team that included Magic Johnson

Not sure if anyone is watching the SLO v LAT warm up game but Luka just got taken out with an injury. Bit of a scramble on Defense and looked like he took a knee to knee then fell and had a teammate land on him.

Middle of third Q and LAT up 16. Luka didn't sit before this I think and has 26/4/5. Hope it's nothing serious

Nobody coming up to help Luka in NT in coming years ? I remember a PG was hyped up a few years ago, but don't remember the name. Also Slovenia is in division A of U18 tournaments so there should be some young talent.
