They're $4.2m under the tax with 13 guys. Should be enough to sign a 14th now, and a 15th later.
It looks like 1.394 over according to Sportrac. Is there something they have wrong?
They removed Highsmith from the books up top, but didn’t subtract his salary down below from the totals.
It often takes them a couple days after a deal to get all their pages lined up as I think they change everything manually? It doesn’t seem to be database/automatically derived.
That would be really surprising, but I agree with your observation.
The rosters are definitely built from a database:
<table id="dataTable-active" class="table dataTable dataTable-yearly rounded-top " style="min-width:1100px !important;" data-width="1100">
<td class=" text-center py-2 px-2 " style="vertical-align: middle; position:relative !important;" data-sort="37096620" data-export="37096620">
<a href="javascript:void(0)" class="player-modal" data-breakdown_id="301129" data-bs-toggle="tooltip" data-bs-placement="top" data-bs-html="true" title="" data-bs-original-title="">
Not sure why the contracts wouldn't automatically update.

I remember 11-30 with these guys. ^

Miami opening a roster spot seems like it could be part of the equation here.

They already had an open roster spot beforehand. Highsmith was the 14th guy and they just signed someone to an exhibit ten camp deal. It seems like the deal gets them just under the tax enough to sign up to two minimums and stay under the tax line?

Highsmith is bad enough that it was worth it to dump him even if it didn't involve any luxury tax milestones.

Most metrics have him as a nice 9th or so rotation piece. Near 40% 3PT the past 2 years, average of 0.98 WS48 the past 2 years, +1.0 DBPM the past 2 years, +/- per 100 are decent. He is a horrid offensive player per advanced stats though.
But as a defensive bench guy playing 15-18mpg he is playoff rotation caliber and is pretty cheap.
Think this was more to do with the injury than anything.

Re: Shams: Highsmith dumped on Brooklyn
I like this for Brooklyn on a small scale. They got a second for taking on his contract and should be able to get a second around the deadline if they take back enough money on a useless expiring contract or whatever.
Miami does ok, seems like they needed to do it. But it doesn’t really do anything for them other than open up some room under the tax line

I actually like Maxi and a second for Highsmith now… especially if Horford will take the BAE..
