We might get the best version of Jokic ever this season.

Nobody coming up to help Luka in NT in coming years ? I remember a PG was hyped up a few years ago, but don't remember the name. Also Slovenia is in division A of U18 tournaments so there should be some young talent.

Yeah, what was that guys name, he should be on one of these youth teams? I am watching FIBA U16 Eurobasket final right now and it is worth to say that earlier today, Slovenian U16 team won bronze, they were beaten pretty bad by Serbia in a semi final, but they got a medal, so basketball aint all dead. Compared to Croatians, most Croatian youth teams were in division B this year, that is total collapse on national basketball over there.

I watched yesterdays game, and they have one guy on a team who is born in 2006, that is something. Not sure what is his name tho and is he projected to be really good, but it is something.

I thought they played good team ball in the second half of third after Luka had to sit. Cut into that lead as well. It's a case of that team being mediocre but then having one megastar inserted to it. They've not had any time to play together so it's just Luka ball on offense and he doest really help their already poor defense against teams with tall/mobile bigs

Serbia - Germany about to start
If you want to try to measure the elements of basketball that are supposedly unmeasurable, spend a game just watching Marc Gasol.

I guess you talking about Jan Vide. Good scorer but not much of a playmaker. He was the go-to-guy when he was in Madrid despite playing alongside Demin and Hugo Gonzalez.

Yeah, the Real Madrid guy, we had these videos of him doing ridiculous circus dribble moves when he was like 5'0 11 year old. Real then picked him up, but I havent heard of him since.

I see he is already 20 years old? Whaaaaaaat? Wow.

Serbian 16 year old Nikola Kusturica is a beast, he is just destroying my Lithuania in the final. He is like perimeter, highly on ball 6'8 guard/wing. Dude looks beastly.

English Announcer has no clue how to pronounce letter C tho, they even have guy named Bjelica, and you would think they would know how that name is pronounced nowadays, but he still says BjeliKa...

I think he went to college in LA.
He either never got a proper chance or just wasn't good enough to make it there.

UcanUwill wrote:Theis was often best Monaco player, in what universe was he washed rofl? Joining team mid season, he instantly became number one center of a team and averaged 11.7 points 5.5 rebounds in 22 minutes. and he had huge game in a playoffs vs Barca and great games just after joining the team. He is not super switchy as before, but if you compared him to Motiejunas, Papagianis and guys like that, guy was still a plus defender. I swear some things that guy says is just unbelievable. Theis is still great Euroleague caliber center and was big part why Monaco was in the finals, he is just undersized for monsters like Jokic.

If you seriously believe that you either never saw a single Monaco game last season, or you don't understand basic principles of defense, or both.

Theis was a huge liability on defense. One of the worst, maybe the worst rotation center on switches. And he could not control the defensive glass properly.

He was very clearly, very clearly, Monaco's third best center. Papagianis had to play injured to save them against Barca in game five - being far more athletic than Theis, even while playing injured, and the team always played better with Jaiteh.

Once opposing teams figured out he can't move his feet, he was getting killed over and over and over on switches.

He wasn't totally washed up overall, because he could still run the floor, he could still shoot, and he could still finish around the rim, at least somewhat.

But in terms of consistent defensive rebounding, he was pretty much washed, and in terms of defense, he was completely and totally 100% well done cooked. Not capable of playing adequate defense at the EuroLeague level.

Every place I look it says they joined FIBA in 1992 and can't find anything before that.

Was about to ask the same. Now national teams of Soviet Union republics existed, but to my knowledge only played amongst themselves and in friendly international games or tournaments

Fun fact: in 1978 Lithuanian NT played against US student team that included Magic Johnson

Nice fun fact, I didn't knew about it.
However, if I had to guess, among all 15 republics it were the Baltic states that always enjoyed a bit more freedom - they joined the USSR later than other republics, their people always had more "freedom" in their vains and brains, and it's why they left the USSR before anyone else - basically, they started the domino fall --> I recommend everyone (not familiar yet) to read about this performance - https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baltic_Way

Who's Slovenia's naturalized player? Is it still Mike Tobey? Or is it Nebo? Haven't watched a single game yet

That's just the reality. There isn't a single eurleage level player on that team right now.

He should have played for Serbia. But I understand. Too bad though a Jokić Luka team would have won the Gold last year.

Slovenian head coach is probably public enemy Nr1 in the country right now. This guy is so incompetent you wouldn't dare to hire him to run your high school team. If we win a single game in Eurobasket, i'll be surprised.

I do not believe they have one? They hoped Nebo would play, but he is recovering form injury plagued season, adn EA7 didn't sign on him playing this summer, so I believe they didn't try to recruit anyone else (which is good, I hate on any team with random naturalized player, can't stand it)

Flashscore app does not have this game on their schedule... But I see Spain is leading France right now 14-7.
