Re: 1980s All-stars Draft - Discussion thread
So strange. I know Magic dominated in the 80s, but this still somehow felt like a bad Magic draft pool.
Maybe I'm just nuts.

Lol I forgot about MJ being available in this draft. But Bird still has his merits for this pool.

I prefer Bird in this pool to MJ but I might have gone Magic 1st.

Re: 1980s All-stars Draft - Discussion thread
I strongly considered Magic because Mike is about 10 fga (gulp) more. But I'm thinking Jordan is a even more dominant talent in this pool. We'll see.
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

Re: 1980s All-stars Draft - Discussion thread
The second pick on the turn was a real struggle for me. Chuck was the BPA but I didn't like the fit with Moses on either end, and so many of the other options are on a similar level. Sid seemed to offer the best mix of talent, cost, fit, and flexibility going forward.

I would have really loved it if you'd taken Magic- I was hoping to get Jordan. You 100 percent made the right choice.
Love Magic but he's not who I wanted to build with in this pool. I anticipate starting a few non-all stars in this one, and Kareem seemed better suited for that sort of team.

Screw you guys
Magic was thr clear number 1 choice as the best players of the 80s are super high fga with less than idealodern "spacing" magic is pure, cheap and elevated everyone on his team.
So there take that.
Bird is still better than magic though except for this draft.

Fade has my options (I asked him to wait somewhat before picking for me, to increase the chance I'm available for my 3rd-4th double pick, already midnight at my timezone)

He was BPA at 3. I passed him because I struggle with him and I knew my favorite pairs with him would be unavailable.

Hurt me to let Bridges go to flaco there, but the PG options were too thin on the ground.

Re: 1980s All-stars Draft - Discussion thread
Love the Derek Harper pick: 2-way, low usage combo guard with legit 3pt range. Not overly explosive to blow by his opponent 1vs1, but has zero exploitable weaknesses in his game. In a nutshell, he's an old school Derrick White. Given that White has become a regular (and for good reason), why not Derek Harper as well? Cost is fairly similar at 11.5 and 12.9 respectively. Only real difference is their 3PAr, but 21.3% is a massive number for the 80s. It seems certain he would have been a volume shooter in the modern era. I've found myself being hesitant to draft him in the past only because he's an unfamiliar name. I think he's underrated and deserves more burn in our games.

I agree.
Dpoy level guy who can fit with anyone
Even younger more athletic dallas version is only 14fga. Not terrible if you have the fga to work with
I might go with that because my 30ppg scorer is super efficient at only 18fga.

Back in the day he used to get drafted fairly regularly. It's just that with the decline in participation we don't often go back to the 80s (which is the only way you can access that cheaper season), and in any case he plays the deepest position in the game.
