Don't want another Gallinari situation where he tore his ACL in a non-NBA game.

I almost died. No but for real, why is he playing when this is about to be a pivotal season in his career? He already had surgery.

Good question.

And this was only an exhibition game..

Listen, I’m no athlete, so I can’t imagine how important and special it feels to be able to play for your country, but sometimes I wish players would forgo it every now and then. Do you have to play every time? I sure hate that our guys played, it likely cost us going further in the playoffs.

It’s crazy that the first off-season the Jays aren’t traveling or playing basketball had to be because of injuries. I wish they would rest more. Yeah I know it’s soft, because MJ played all the time, gambled, and played other sports (golf) before games, but that’s just not the era we’re in, these guys need rest!

Before Queta went down, he did look really good though! I can’t wait for this season. I have such high hopes for him! I really wish he could have played more last season, but it didn’t happen. It’s his time, but he has to make it without injuring himself in the off-season!

I just think he wants to play. Whether there or in Boston.

IMO, he's a junkyard dawg who will bounce right back up and go for more.

Unless it comes from him, I doubt the C's can influence Portugal sitting him out.

The Celtics approved Queta playing for Portugal, and he's playing with a minutes restriction.

You don't want to overdo it, but hoopsters hoop in the offseason. It's the only way to keep getting better.

Neemias Queta Not Seriously Injured; Portugal Eurobasket Precautionary Rest

The big man suffered a strain during the second Eurobasket warm-up game against Spain B. That’s the key takeaway here: it’s just a strain. More importantly, his hip is fine. This is great news for both Queta and the national team, often called “the Lynx squad.” Even so, he’ll rest up for a bit. He won’t be available for Sunday’s game against Argentina in Madrid. However, he is expected to be back on the court next week. That’s when the Lynx will set up camp in Braga for two more friendly matches.

Gant wrote:Spain and Portugal played again. Queta slipped with a couple of minutes left, looked like he might have strained something in his right leg, and left the game at that point. He had 12 points on 5-7, 5 rebs, and 3 blocks in 14 and a half minutes, and was +7 in a one point loss for Portugal.

He looks lighter and faster, with a more diversified offense. There are reasons to be optimistic about Queta.

I hope that Queta is not too badly injured. Might need to rest up, and prepare for NBA Training Camp.

Great to hear from Neemy and see how much he's growing as a player and a representative of the team and league.

Out of all the changes this year, I think I'm most excited to see how Queta evolves this season. If he can develop into a starter-caliber player, it really changes the outlook for the team. The missing piece of the puzzle might be right in front us.

Did he sit in the game against Argentina? I assume so, but can’t find a box score.

Queta sat, and so did two other key players for Portugal who were also injured. They lost to Argentina 84-70. Argentina is ranked #8 in the world. Portugal has two more warmup games coming up against Iceland and Sweden.

Neemias Queta back and ready for Braga

Recovered from the hip injury suffered against the Spanish B team, which ruled him out of the game against Argentina, Nehemiah Queta returned to join the National Team. This Wednesday he trained in the morning and was spared in the afternoon, but will be available for the Braga International Tournament, where Portugal will face Iceland and Sweden on consecutive nights.

The 2.13-meter centre should participate in only one of the matches or, alternatively, see his effort dosed by the national technical team, with limited minutes that allow him to be present in both games. The decision is not related to the recent hip injury, but to the recovery plan defined by the Boston Celtics' medical team, which, after the arthroscopy on the left knee performed in May, plans to avoid heavy loads on consecutive days.

That little turn around jumper looked sweet. I'm rooting for Neemie hard this year, not sure he'll ever get another opportunity like this. The biggest thing he has to do is rotate properly on defense to be playable, he's got the tools.

Portugal defeated Sweden 78-61 in another warm up match. Queta had 12 PTS on 5-7 shooting, 7 REB, 1 BLK in about 15 and a half minutes. He was +18 again in his time on the floor.

Queta will be fine.

He's better than Luke as a player.

The problem with Queta is he lacks the awareness that Luke has.

Luke was almost always at the right place at the right time.

We've actually seen Queta play meaningful minutes with the Cs in the regular season.

The progress we need to see from Q is on the defensive end.

Q can score and rebound, but the area where Luke was better is timing.

Luke knows where to be and when to be there.

Hopefully Q has improved in that department.

It took Luke 3 years to figure it out
Queta is basically at year 2. Hope he develops his defensive awareness
Overall, I like what I see against the European softies :)

Yeah, it's just about gaining more experience.

If Q can minimize his mistakes on D, he's a legit starting Center.

He can score, rebound, and block shots.

All Q needs is mastery of the defensive schemes.

Here's an in-depth Queta article from Bobby Manning. Also, and not in the article, there are rumors that Joe Mazzulla will be in Riga to watch Queta play in the Eurobasket tournament.

Inside a Week in Portugal with Likely Celtics Starter Neemias Queta

Neemias Queta shared the story of his basketball start, growth and emergence as the first NBA champion from Portugal with the Celtics with CLNS Media.
