as someone who has been pretty dismissive of a lot of the concerns around burden, it was pretty funny to hear the announcers discussing his blocking and asking poles if they knew that was part of his game when they drafted him, and poles responding by pretty much saying "he was absolutely not doing that kind of stuff as recently as a few weeks ago"

nobody's perfect!

watching bagent's press conference...this is the second interview i can remember where he has been very transparent about how bad he thought the old coaching staffs were lol

(specifically, he was praising the current offense for how well it was built, and how there are clear black-and-white ways that a play is meant to go, and if it goes wrong it's because someone specifically did something wrong, and when you're going back and watching on film it is easy to tell who screwed it up and how. and he said the previous offenses had a lot of shades of grey in that regard, and the coaches were wishy-washy about who should have done what. i know that was definitely something people pointed out about waldron's offense even before he got fired, so it's funny to see a player just come out and say that he also thought that was dumb)

Just saw the highlights, but sounds like they dominated on both sides of the ball. We've been hearing how good Zacheus has been looking for weeks now, and tonight he showed it in a live game. DJ, Rome, Zacheus, and Burden- they might be the best group of WR's 1-4 in the league in a few years. Although I could understand trading one of them (DJ) to spread the resources around a bit better.

Bears rankings:
QB: 20th
RB: 21st
WR: 7th
TE: 6th
OL: 3rd
Interior DL: 18th
Edge: 24th
Linebacker: 11th
Corner: 8th
Safety: 8th
Overall: 8th

Can't say I know anywhere near enough about the NFL to know how good or bad any of these rankings are for various units, but feels like the the author sure thinks Caleb has a lot around him including a great offensive line and receiving weapons. Certainly we seem to have a QB oriented coach as well. If these are rankings are even in the ball park, then if Caleb has it, he should show it this year (barring injuries of course).

That last ranking I take it means we're 8th overall as a team? That's not too shabby and a lot to live up to.

I do think the OL is still a question mark just due to having so many new faces in there- how well will they learn to play together as a unit? And how well will their skills mesh? 3rd best in the league would be pretty nice, both for pass protection, and for what it would mean for our running game, which can take a lot of pressure off Caleb. I thought that was a big part of the reason Caleb struggled last year- the run game was so poor, he was forced to pass a lot and the defenses knew it.

Speaking of RB's, good to see Ian Wheeler get a lot of carries tonight, although his YPC wasn't great. I thought he might have an outside chance to be a RB3 or 4 this year.

We don’t need to see Kyle Monangai again until game 1 earliest. The below is the reason KM didn’t play, as BJ said post game, “injury related”, and I can see why Swift didn’t play. The Bears are running short on bodies at the position.

An offense that looks professional regardless who is running it, or who is playing the skill positions.

Efficient. Well designed. Aggressive.

A running game that actually makes sense and is North/South instead of east/west.

I don't miss all the damned bubble screens one bit. We are actually seeing slants and short middle gap dump offs being executed properly.

Please don't let it be a dream.

That’s what Pro Level coaching looks like.

- Everyone on the same page

- Players moving with confidence and conviction

My Highlights…
- That rope to Kmet was poetry in motion. Not even a blink of wasted movement

- Burden’s blocks

- Wheeler has some wheels

- Booker is legit. 1.5 sacks that first one was awesome

- Bagent is def a starter. Our 4th string will be a good backup when Coach is done with him.

Coach has completely flipped the culture. No more safe playing not to lose garbage.

Poles said it himself. We are coming in expecting to win and not hoping to win.

We’ve waited long enough. This is the type of Bears football weve been wanting to see.

They better keep Ben for the next 20 years ! This guy is legit. Also, with him we don't have to worry as much about losing OCs to HC jobs. Because Ben pretty much is the OC. Makes this even better

I didn't read that closely, my guess is they were looking more at talent than effectiveness, and overall is adding up all the rankings and then seeing who is best rather than projecting team performance. In that sense, QB, Edge, and DL are so important, and we are ranked low there.

That said, I don't know, I just thought it was interesting and worth posting.

We’re getting more and more data as I have mentioned that was needed to come to a more reliable opinion of his chances. Although if he’s actually gonna have a starting shot somewhere, there’s not a lot of incentive for Bagent to sign the extension

To your point, I will say more recent data is always more important data, in that sense, my view of him being a UDFA isn't as important as it is older data. I don't think you can completely throw out all old data in this sense when the new data is very minimal, but he's overcome the UDFA ranking by making a team for 3 years.

Didn't get to see the game last night, but guessing there isn't much to complain about in a 38-0 win

Though I read Buffalo rested all their starters, better to kick their backups ass than struggle.

Any word on Terrell Smith? I'm assuming the worst and he's out for the year.

Biggs said it's something minor, he's going to get a good amount of work once the regular season hits.

True. But it's not like the Bears played their starters all that much. First team D mostly only played 3 snaps and offense 12-15 snaps. As somebody earlier noted Dennis Allen had all the defensive guys playing attack-style, no let up.

I was glad to see Kiran play as much as he did; 3rd string reps but when I watched him, he moved people. Guess he's healthy now.

Zah Frazier showed up this week though. The Minnesota guy signing was pretty fortunate. As long as JJ returns fairly soon they can weather the loss. The biggest injury problem aside from this now is that both Booker and Dom Rob were injured last night. And the slot corner hammy.
