The only real good thing about this game was we didn't lose much ground and Vlad had a decent night at the plate with his OPS now look liking it's starting to enter .900. Hopefully that continues.

With Bieber coming to play, perhaps we could skip a start for Berrios to see if the extra rest helps him with the decreased velocity. With 3 more years left we need to somehow find a way to help him

I read that's what teams do

No just berrios sucked

Pretty much. All game long you could feel he knew he didn't have it, I don't even think he threw one pitch inside to a RHB, he was living outside and the hitters figure it out. Disappointing.

We now need to take advantage of our upcoming games against Pitt and Minnesota.

Ill include the marlins in that next group of games: we need a at least 6-3 or 7-2 run there. who knows what will happen in milwaukee

Berrios can opt out of his contract after next year, but he will not since he is owed 24 million in both 2027 and 2028.

If Berrios can continue to be the pitcher he’s been the last couple of years, I think he’s more likely to opt out.

A 32-year old, who never gets injured, and is a pretty good 3rd starter. He should be able to get a $70M+ over 4 years

He’s had a combined 4.6 FIP the last two years and his stuff has deteriorated significantly for the 2nd year in a row. He has the health factor but I’d consider it very unlikely he’d opt out the way he’s trending right now.

Berrios will get $50M over 2 years if he opts in. If he opted out then he'd enter the market for his age 33 season, and he's already showing significant signs of decline in pitch quality. His only skill at this point is durability. Unless he has a Cy Young caliber 2026, I think it's a lock that he opts in.

It's become a coin flip whether we get Berrios or Bury Us. It used to be that his fifth or sixth innings were Kryptonite, now it's any inning. I wouldn't trust him in the bullpen in the playoffs either. Bieber, if he is close to what the team hopes, might end up being a season saver.

Nick Pivetta got 4/55 this offseason (and that was all backloaded).

Unless Berrios steps it up in 2026, I just can't see he him opting out.
