Re: #25: Welcome to Orlando, Jase Richardson!
A few short weeks ago, the Magic selected Jase Richardson. And right now, it looks like they stole a player who had no business slipping that far.
OMD link: Magic got the absolute steal of the 2025 draft — and it's not even close
Jase Richardson has been fantastic.

Question, how does this work if players never get their own signature shoe? Are they just models wearing the brand’s clothes and shoes?

Basically they get sent free stuff to wear.

Meet second-leading scorer off the bench (behind Moe). I'll hedge my bet by saying "after the All-Star break"...that's when he'll confidently overtake Tristan.

I gave your boy a nod...AB might be more valuable, but a conscience-free, but somehow efficient scorer is his ideal partner.

Let's just not jump a shark.
For start, those days of 5 bench players playing alone with 5 starters sitting are gone. Mosley will need to separate and stagger Franz and Paolo a lot in order to give them enough shots so both can be happy. In all that Bane won't just drop from 26% usage to 18% usage, and Suggs will prefer keeping his +22% usage as well. And for damn sure Franz won't go from 25 ppg on 19 shots to 18 ppg on 13 shots.
By default, it means that almost all the time, if game isn't in garbage time and/or massive blowout, several starters will play with bench players just to get enough shots and generate enough MPG.
There are also some combinations of players that flat out don't work ( Banchero - Jett = -12 net rating, Carter & JI = -10 net rating, Goga - Banchero = -8 net rating ) for various reasons, either offering no offense or no perimeter defense and team should stay away in rotation from it.
I think people got bit carried away with Penda/ Jace thing. They are late picks on team that want to be contender. They won't play much. I highly doubt Penda will play at all. Jase might, but in same time, if they were banking on his playing time they would not get Jones and would get rid of Jett. But neither happened.
Magic have set starting 5 and Jones, AB, Isaac, Goga + Moe whenever he comes back. Only remaining regular rotation spot is for 5th bench player, we talk about some 8-12 mpg role. And that one will probably, due defense, go to Tristan early on.
Injuries play role in rotation during season, but i highly doubt Jase & Penda are in any serious rotation plans early on.
Also once Moe goes back, for damn sure you won't pair hobbling 7'0 slowfooted C with 6'0 shooting guard because defense won't hold.
Tbh i think Penda will be Jett-Howarded to G league and Jase will be Caleb Houstaned, staying on main roster, but playing sporadic min every once in a while but nowhere near serious rotation on regular bases.

I'd agree that that is the likeliest plan...but rookies are like "mystery boxes" and no one really knows what they'll do. Some guys explode right from the start and show that they're much better NBA players than NCAA (usually Kentucky guards). I think Jase will impress and provide the kind of (potential) impact that we always hoped Cole would provide. Cole rarely was completely dropped from the rotation, despite his stature, his defense, and (especially) his offensive inefficiency...he was always ORL's best hope at providing the green-light scorer off the bench-but he (more often than not) didn't consistently deliver. That's still a need. I'm not saying Jase will threaten ANY starters for minutes or touches...as ORL has become MUCH improved, the bench scoring will be less of a concern, because Bane and the return of Suggs brings so much more backcourt scoring that, as you said, will be staggered throughout many lineups. Tyus, even in higher usage opportunities, has never really scored much and the same could be said for AB. As I said earlier, both Jones and AB are probably better overall players but I could easily imagine Jase outscoring them and doing just enough other things to keep himself in the rotation.
Jase could easily be the first or second guard off the bench if he shows poise & maturity in camp and early in the season. On this Magic team, the second-leading bench scorer might be less than 8 ppg. I'm hopeful but not delusional...most analysts consider Jase one of the best value picks at his slot this year, especially considering the potential role on a team that's been dreadful on the offensive end. Most rookies (outside of the top 2 or 3) look shockingly lost when they hit the NBA - but there are always surprising exceptions and I'm looking to Jase to possibly be one of the outliers.

Re: #25: Welcome to Orlando, Jase Richardson!
Richardson is soldly a 3rd stringer to start the year.
Opening night depth chart basically in stone, minus any pre-season injuries:
Suggs/Jones/Richardson
Bane/Black/Howard
F-Wagner/da Silva
Banchero/Isaac/Penda
Carter/Bitadze/M-Wagner
He will get minutes over the season though, as when Suggs sits for 10-15 games, Richardson will log backup minutes. Regardless if it is Black or Jones that starts in Suggs' absense.

I see Black playing some backup PG as well. I still have hope that the Magic get rid of Jett's atrocious salary packaged with a future 2nd and resign Trevelin Queen.

Coach Mosley has outright agreed with you last year in that he tries to "always" have either F-Wagner or Banchero on the court "at all times". Let's pencil them in for 32-34 minutes a game meaning that both playing together will only log about 20-24 mpg.
The Magic's strength is that many differing 5-players could be on the court at any one time. That creates defensive confusion. We fans must expect a huge number of rosters to be played in-game.
A final agreement point, last year the Forwards were at 34 mpg, he SG was at 30 mpg, and Suggs was at 29 mpg; those minutes lines are likely to hold. Add Carter in for 26 mpg. That means that there should be 16-20 mpg where the five starters are on the court together.

I'd be happy if the Magic had Jahmani "Hot Shot" Swanson over Howard!

I believe Jase and Penda are considered the eventual replacements for Tyus and JI.
This year I see them getting garbage minutes and supplementing the rotation when there are injuries/foul trouble etc.
I hope, that when appropriate, the org uses the G league to supplement their playing time and not waste those opportunities just to have them stack DNPs on the main club.
