Masai and Bobby have done a terrible job the last 3-4 years. Hopefully Bobby can turn it around. I think a lot hinges on if BI and Quickley can stay on the floor and play well. Problem with the Raptors roster is there is just no flexibility and BI/Quickley can very easily become negative value contracts.

To be fair, no one expected that pick to be top 10 when we made the deal, not even New Orleans.
Also if it's top 10, it's largely because the Pacers got the pick back and then have the incentive to tank if things aren't going well.
If NO didn't trade them the pick back, Indiana wouldn't have that motivation.
Doesn't matter. Indiana is 100% gonna pick a stud with like the 9th pick and we are going to get posts about this for the next 20 years
Even if they pick a stud, someone will make a post about how we shouldn't have made that trade and should have picked whoever the best player who gets picked from pick 10-19.

Exactly. Motivation for Indy to tank is all about controlling that pick. If they didn't have it, the motivation is gone.
Also, if there was any team that made a stupid decision in moving that pick, it is New Orleans. If a team in the finals, calls you up to made a trade about a FRP, when their star player just left one of the previous games with an injury (this was before the actual Achilles tear), wouldn't you question the timing of that trade request?

Ha! They thought criticizing the guy who got fired would land them the job and win over Pelley. Idiots!
This was 100% Casey
Does this motivate BI even more?

What I have found is that when senior decision makers (leaders) are truly incompetent, they usually surround themselves or are surrounded by 'yes men' that shield them from others coming to realize how incompetent they are, and 'yes men' that can wear the blame for those leaders poor decisions.
Pelley is just the 'yes man' providing cover for the true idiot, Ed. Not to say he is also not incompetent, because he chooses to be in this role.

It's so cool that Josh has people detailing the play-by-play of the interviews for the new Raptor's team president to him. I wonder if Doug Smith gets a copy of the transcripts and then emails Josh a summary of the key points. Talk about inside access.

This has to be a Rogers leak, right? They gave it to the TSN guy to distance themselves? Who else would know what multiple candidates said in their individual interviews other than the people doing the interviewing?
Which begs the question: what does this achieve for them? Is it a shot at Masai? Weird way to take a shot at him when you hire his right hand guy that was here the whole time as his successor...

Maybe the implication is Bobby didn't want to make those moves, and it was Masai's decision? Basically, them just saying Bobby will be different from his predecessor. Wasn't there a rumour in this thread that Bobby didn't want to make the BI trade?

The tweet says external candidates, so at the very least it's going out of its way to say Bobby is not included in this group

If the Team sucks, then you will hear that all the moves were Masai's doing - If the team is successful, then you will hear that Bobby was the guy behind most of these moves - that's the way it usually goes and I don't expect any different.

Rogers is trying to distance themselves as much as possible from Masai being fired for the obvious reason (think Trump's hate of Obama).
The fact that all of Masai's staff remain in place clearly shows this is not a performance issue. So get everybody to focus on the money issue only.

this is clearly peddi, i mean pelley's words
he always says rebuild and brand
“This is his chance,” said one source close to the hiring process. “Show (us) he’s the president. It’s a process. It’s all about the rebuild, it’s all about the strategy going forward. Can Brandon Ingram and Scottie Barnes become an incredible duo? How do you manage the tax situation we’re currently in?
“At the end of the day,” the source continued. “It will be about Bobby making the right decisions moving forward. He’s (40) and he’s got every quality that you want representing your organization. Now, it comes down to wins and losses, building the reputation of the brand and dealing with the salary cap.”

Easy move since they are marginally over. Bobby will play it out though to see what other larger deals might become available throughout the year, and then pull the trigger at the deadline, if nothing materializes before that date.

Yeah it was already obvious before, but now it should be impossible to deny from the "tax isn't the issue anymore it's the aprons" crowd. The Raptors apron situation is so easily manageable that it's not even worth mentioning (all they have to do is cut AJ Lawson).
That comment had to be about the tax. Which again, was already pretty obvious before. The repeater clock will not be started on this year's Raptors team, especially with how much harsher the repeater penalties are about to become going forward.
Masai and Bobby were very close to already having the tax situation for this season solved last season though. If they had been able to convince the Pelicans to take RJ instead of Bruce Brown as the primary salary filler in the Ingram trade. Let's see if RJ is still the intended casualty this season now that it's just Bobby in charge.

We are like a mill over the tax - the unlikely incentives only play for aprons & not the tax purposes. Ducking the tax will not take some giant move

If we were truly worried about it, we simply wouldn't have signed a Lawson or Temple.
IDK why some people are making this out to be some grand issue.

And next year there is no tax problem, so no repeater issue to worry about. The only reason they are going to duck under the tax this year is Rogers is cheap.
The tax payments to non tax teams is dropping dramatically as tax teams get under the 2nd apron. So yes, aprons are becoming a bigger driver than the tax. Or the aprons are giving owners the excuse to drop their tax commitments/payments.
