Scottie Barnes to MEM

Post#1 » by esvl » Tue Aug 19, 2025 5:06 pm

Barnes
fillers

for

Aldama
Pippen
GG Jackson
KCP (can be flipped to LAL for expirings)
1st 2026
1st 2030

TOR admits that Barnes is not a franchise player to build around and starts a new lifecycle by replacing him with Aldama and getting two 1sts with two good young rotational players in Pippen and GG.

MEM makes a consolidation move and gambles on Barnes improving his 3pt shooting. They would certainly like to utilize him as a secondary playmaker and primary defender against big wings. He would run a second unit and create a “shield wall” with JJJ on the defensive end. Should the experiment fails, they would likely be able to trade him for another star.

Toronto is not going to admit that before they even see what they have this year.

This also less than what Bane got in return. Value seems off but I’m bias.

Short on value IMO, 1 or 2 1sts.
This values Barnes less than Bane which I won't agree with.

KCP requires a first himself to be moved as witnessed by the trade that got him there, so dont think there's any reason for Tor to touch this.

Pistons fan here, so no skin in the game, but IMHO Toronto seems to have been w/o direction the last few years. Haven’t seen if the BI signing will work, so probably worth giving it a try. Reasonable amount of talent on the team, not so sure about the fit.

Barnes may not be a franchise player, but not even getting a sure fire starter for him would be a huge undersell. First round picks look nice on paper but could wind up being worthless.

This is way off IMO.

Just from PDX I would send something like Camara, Scoot and some FRP for Barnes which I dont see as a great offer but it beats this IMO.

This is quite off. Barnes is a very good player who just turned 24. He's been asked to be the #1 option on a tanking and terrible Raptors team for a few years now, which isn't his role. This is underselling him not in a small way.

Someone mentioned this earlier, but if Desmond Bane can return 4 1sts and two rotation players, the return on Barnes has to be greater.

Barnes is a nice young player. They are not trading for mediocre youth and mediocre picks.

I also agree that this is off.

Not even close for Toronto, Aldma is good but Pippen is meh, KCP is a filler and two picks isn't enough

I agree that TOR needs more value, but I take Bane over Barnes every day of the week and twice on Sundays. Better player, better contract.

MEM would have to add at least two more 1sts to that package.

I think Toronto is determined to give it a go this year. Now after the year if Toronto looks rudderless and Barnes has a subpar season. Then this offer is in line with what teams would offer for him. It would take more value now for Toronto not to see it through this year and I am not sure a smart team is going to pay for Toronto to pivot early.

No. Even if TOR looks rudderless for another year they will get better offers for Barnes than this.

Like what? POR won’t offer Avdija. Scoot? He is not much more productive than Pippen.

Barnes may not be a 1st option type, but 19/8/6 with a 2.6 BPM in a role that he probably should not be playing is really, really good. He's a great complimentary player who does a little of everything and he still has that "what if we can develop his shot" hope to him, as his form really isnt broken and he has a great touch around the rim.

This is short by a lot in a situation where the Raps would only ever accept an overpayment.

I am not just talking Portland (Albeit I think Camara, Scoot and FRP is a better deal).

But numerous teams could beat the offer listed here by MEM, and my offer from PDX.

I have no interest in Barnes on that contract. Only player on Raptors I’m interested in is CMB.

He’s a rookie lotto pick.

They’d want more that deal.

Bench guys and late picks aren’t going to get it done.
