Where Will The Remaining Rotation Level FA's Land?

Post#1 » by Scalabrine » Tue Aug 19, 2025 2:18 pm

For being so late in the off-season, there are still quite a few rotation players out there.

- Malcom Brogdon
- Al Horford
- Gary Payton 2
- Trey Lyles
- Precious Achiuwa
- Amir Coffey
- Russel Westbrook
- Cory Joseph
- Alec Burks
- Cameron Payne
- Delon Wright
- Monte Morris
- Thomas Bryant
- Seth Curry
- Landry Shamet
- Ben Simmons

These are all veterans, many of which were getting Playoff Minutes just a few months ago and none of them have a home right now.

I know the Nets are the only team left with any meaningful cap space, but most teams have roster spots and at least the bi-annual exception to work with. Outside of RFA's - Giddey/Thomas/Kuminga, there aren't any more big shoes to drops that is holding any of this up...so what do you think it is? Is the 2nd apron the hold up?

Where would you think these guys end up? Or where would you like them to end up?

- Malcom Brogdon - Pacers
- Al Horford - Warriors
- Gary Payton 2 - Warriors
- Trey Lyles - Kings
- Precious Achiuwa - Heat
- Amir Coffey - Sixers
- Russel Westbrook - Mavericks
- Cory Joseph - Raptors
- Alec Burks - Wolves
- Cameron Payne - Knicks
- Delon Wright - Nuggets
- Monte Morris - Bucks
- Thomas Bryant - Hornets
- Seth Curry - Mavericks
- Landry Shamet - Magic
- Ben Simmons - Suns
Go Knicks!

Bryant signing was just a rumour. He's holding out for an NBA deal, and I don't blame him. How is he not signed yet? Dude hit big shots in playoff games this year.

Ya know I had Coffey going to the Bucks but I changed it in an edit to the Sixers. I didn't have any rumors, just fits I liked.

I like him on the Bucks though.

Turner/Portis/Sims
Giannis/Prince
Kuzma/Coffey/Jackson Jr./Livingston
Green/Trent/Harris
Anthony/Porter Jr.

Still feel like they need another trusty point guard, but that team is still a playoff team as long as Giannis stays healthy.

Thats why I have him going to the Hornets. He'd walk in as the starter there or at least be a rotation player.

As a Knicks fan, I would rather have Shamet than Payne.

Brogdon and Simmons would be more bold options.

Monte Morris back to the Nuggets? They could use another point guard.

Wow that is a depressing list of players. Precious should go back to Toronto.

Why?

They have a ton of PF/bigs: Ingram, Barnes, Poetl, Mamu, Murray-Boyles, Mogbo, Chomche...

Horford, Melton, and GP2 sign with the Warriors the same day this Kuminga saga is resolved. They all already have handshake deals in place.

A third of those guys probably won't even be on a training camp roster.

I wouldn't be surprised to see some teams hold a spot open and wait to see how their players do and then possibly sign one of these guys if needed. I don't think there is a rush at this point and flexibility is easier with the extra two-way contract.

That's exactly what I think the Nuggets are doing with their backup point guard spot. If Picket doesn't work out continue to progress and they want more depth or a more standard point guard besides Brown, I could see them going after one of the point guards, maybe even Russ.

Cavs are holding 2 standard spots open currently. If they pull a 2024 Knicks and circumvent the CBA, they won't have to sign a 14th guy until like November 6th-ish.

I think a lot of these guys might have played their last NBA mins unfortunately. IND and DAL need pgs but I just don't see Brogdon or Westbrook being what they want. Why pay Brogdon to not play and teams give Russ a chance but no one keeps him, thats a telling sign

Some teams have too many players on the roster... so I think we will see some more movement for these guys once the stop-gap of Free Agency clears.

-- that's Kuminga, Giddey, Grimes and to some extent the Cam Thomas contracts.

However I do think Brogdon is a solid piece for teams to spell PG, Warriors needed that at times, and he and Horford make sense for GSW.

OKC, if they trade Dieng for picks would surely be interested in at least one or two players. Orlando could use a back up PG, and Clippers could use a shooter like Burks.

But I want Al back!

The sudden and unceremonious destruction of my championship team remains sucky you guys.

Russ was playing major playoff minutes and closing out games for the Nuggets. Do his flaws overlap so much with the addition of Brown that he's not even worth being on the roster???? They added shooting elsewhere and Brown hasn't been the healthiest guy over the past few seasons. It just seems dangerous to go into the season relying on Murray and Brown to be the only playmakers outside of Jokic.

Westbrook wouldn't even be in the rotation if the Nuggets are healthy. I doubt that's something he's comfortable with, even at his age.
