If he punches a pacer/heat/rap/bulls/celt this year ill not only overlook his horrendous shot selection I'll cop a jersey.

Yeah, I think he will be sharing the load. Inefficient offense is not a good focal point. He will also be on the court with other starters. We aren't doing hockey subs are we?

I was semi joking with giving him free reign. Yes they will peobably stagger the lineup. To be fair, he has been on some really bad teams for most of his career. If they can get him into more of a role like Donte had here where he is mostly spotting up for 3s or attacking close outs, he should be more efficient.

My concern is that he has been inefficient even when Utah had the #1 offense in the league. He was basically the least efficient player in the rotation even on a much more talented and experienced team. The biggest difference I noticed over the last few years since they traded their stars is that Clarkson is taking a little bit more of a distributing role with Conley, Mitchell, and Ingles gone. He has similar highs and lows in his shot making and playmaking role.

Well he did manage to win 6th man of the year in 20-21 and 4th the next year so it wasn't too bad. He is always going to be a volume shooter. He will have some really incredible highs and some bad lows. On the low nights, we have a good overall team to counter a bad bench game. IQ was very similar but a guy you wanted because he can be a game changer. Clarkson is just that, a wildcard, game changer we haven't had since IQ.

Yeah, 6th Man of the year seems like a volume scoring award in many years for me. The voters didn't seem too concerned with defense, efficiency or other things in the past.

As far as the IQ comparison he has been a more efficient scorer than Clarkson for years and has shown the ability to play behind and next to Brunson while also being a better defender than Clarkson. IQ could impact the game in a positive way even when he wasn't scoring.

I think you are remembering IQ all wrong. In his 3 and a half years with the Knicks, he had a 42fg% with a 52efg%. Clarkson from 2020-2023 had a 43fg% and also a 52efg%. IQ shot the 3 a couple of points better and Clarkson scored a few more points than IQ but overall they were pretty much identical in production.

I think there’s a lot of cherry picking with these stats, considering that you make a concerted effort to add in IQ’s first two seasons as a young player to try and make Clarkson’s numbers look better. We shouldn’t be lumping IQ’s rookie and sophomore season into those stats, considering the fact that he’s improving during that time and he hasn’t gone back to that level. I think we should not even be using anything even close to 2020 to project Clarkson’s impact anymore. His last two seasons are more indicative of who he is, and as an older player who was a chucker, his decline might be a function of age.

IQ’s first two years almost got him traded. In year three, in particular, IQ makes a huge leap that changes the trajectory of the Knicks. Instead of just being used as a Donovan Mitchell throw-in, he becomes the centerpiece of a deal that allows us to get OG Anunoby and then gets paid.

Moreover, IQ’s impact off the ball is so much better than Clarkson’s, it’s not comparable. He was quarterbacking the defense when he got into the game, he’s always been a good rebounder and he knows how to play off other people.

Don’t play these expectation games with Clarkson; it’s just going to make people hate him more when he reverts back to his inefficient chucking. He’s not close to IQ. He’s a minimum player right now and that’s who he is.

I was just looking at the numbers since IQ was the 6MOY runner up seeing as he was a young player and took a leap in efficiency that year. At his age had he remained in that role I could easily see him maintaining or improving on his efficiency whereas Clarkson is 33 and likely declining.

IQ had a 57.8 TS% in 22-23 and a 59.8 TS% in 23-24 before being traded to Toronto and he finished at 57.7% for the year. He has hovered around that percentage even in Toronto as a starter dealing with injuries. Clarkson's highest TS% of his career was 57.4 six years ago. IQ has also been the far better and far more consistent 3 point shooter for his career. Clarkson's 3 point % fluctuates all over the place like Randle's does.

IQ's average efficiency is basically Clarkson's peak which at age 33 we may be unlikely to ever see again.

I used metrics for his entire time here. That was the comparison. 2 of the first 3 years he was in 6th man of the year consideration. I also counted 2 good team seasons with 2 bad seasons for both. Its about impact as the type of players they are. If you think IQ was a high efficiency player and all world defender, you are crazy. He was a wildcard on any given night. Some nights he was outstanding and others he would literally be a momentum killer with his decision making.

My guess is Clarkson is out of the rotation by mid season. I have absolutely no idea why the Knicks have continued to pursue this piece of trash. He adds zero value - bad shooter, playmaker, rebounder, defender. Shouldn’t be in the league.

Even if he only played a portion of a season, Malcom Brogdon would have been an exponentially better choice.

It's disgusting how some people think they are allowed to talk about other people. What's wrong with you. Your post would have be fine without the insults.

At least his post had valid points. You call his outlook "garbage" like all of it is bad, but most of the things he brought up are true.

Then again, most of Clarkson's defenders in this thread have not had good arguments, so I'm not surprised you would resort to a post like this. In the end, I suspect it's basically, "he has a Knicks jersey so we need to support him."

Edit: Also saw Melo hamsterdamming and reviving this thread
