Cam Thomas Choosing Between Qualifying Offer Or Two-Year, $28M Deal

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Thu Aug 21, 2025 2:54 am

Cam Thomas appears to be deciding between signing the qualifying offer with the Brooklyn Nets to become an unrestricted free agent in 2026, or signing their two-year offer that is worth approximately $28 million but has a team option for the second season, reports Jake Fischer.

In 25 games last season with the Nets, Thomas averaged 24.0 points, 3.3 rebounds and 3.8 assists.

Thomas has been limited by his restricted free agency and the lack of cap space from rival teams this offseason.

Thomas is represented by Alex Saratsis.

28 > 6

14 > 6

$8M can buy a lot.

Take the money, not sure how taking a qualifying offer is better. At least negotiate to get a player option. 14 million is better than the qualifying offer at least your making more that one season then leave.

14 and walk is not on the table.

it's 14 and team option for 14 the next season. if he takes 6 he can walk and 'bet on himself' to make more as an unrestricted FA next year.

Oh man I see the issue now, they really messing with him. Unfortunate situation for him. I assume if he takes that QO the nets are going to probably tank his value so he doesn’t make much in the market next offseason. Both options seem very risky for him. I guess if they aren’t willing to take off the team option he should try and see if he can get more money yearly from them an extra 1 or 2 mill per year.

This is the same situation with Kuminga and the Warriors. A 2/45 offer with the 2nd year a team option. In Kuminga's case, it's $21.6M for the first season vs an $8M qualifying offer.

Brutal offseason to be a restricted free agent.
