Al Horford Could Sign Two-Year Deal With Warriors Worth Over $11M

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Thu Aug 21, 2025 2:46 am

Al Horford and the Golden State Warriors continue to wait on a resolution to the Jonathan Kuminga situation before finalizing their agreement. Horford could be signed for the full taxpayer midlevel exception on a two-year deal with the second season a player option.

The taxpayer midlevel exception for the 2025-26 season is worth $5.685 million.

Horford appeared in 60 games last season with the Boston Celtics, averaging 9.0 points, 6.2 rebounds and 2.1 assists in 27.7 minutes. The Warriors will value Horford's ability to stretch the floor and swith on defense at the center position.

The Kuminga situation continues to drag out with the restricted free agent having an October 1st deadline to sign the qualifying offer or agree to terms on a contract.

Lol, Warriors' offseason has been a sh*tshow. They won't even make the play-in next year.

Warriors trying to assemble the oldest starting lineup in the history of the NBA:

PG: Stephen Curry (37)
SG: Buddy Hield (32)
SF: Jimmy Butler (35, 36 by the start of the season)
PF: Draymond Green (35)
C: Al Horford (39)

Did you also look at the Clippers?

They have exactly one main player 35+ in James Harden, the Warriors are literally going to have one starter under 35.

It is very likely that Podz and/or Moody start over Heild. They might also bring Horford off the bench. He hasn't been a full time starter in a few years. Don't get me wrong, they're still old as hell!

Sometimes not doing anything is the best thing you can do.

IND let Turner walk for nothing.
PHX is paying Beal to be a Clipper. Keeping Beal would have handicapped them for two seasons; this handicaps them for five! Booker will be 33yo and just out of his prime when Beal comes off the books!
CHI spent the summer sticking their tongue out at Giddy.
NOP traded for Poole, sending out CJ, a player who's expiring contract plus shooting and playmaking would have been very attractive to a contender at the deadline.
SAC gave Schroeder $45m!
UTA traded Sexton and a 2nd for Nukic!
POR traded Simons for Holiday, and stuck with the trade after Holiday didn't pass his physical. And weeks later give Lillard $42m to rehab in POR, exactly where he wanted to rehab and with no other team offering him more than the minimum!
MIN gave large contracts to Randle and Reid with Gobert still on the roster. Those three should never be on the floor together. Follow up trade?
PHI still doesn't have a PF. That should have been their #1 goal since signing PG last summer!
SAS gave Fox 4yr/$229m. Sorry, but that was a mistake! Are we sure Castle won't be starting over him in two years?

The Warriors didn't overpay Kuminga and they didn't let him walk for nothing. With their books as tight as they are, that's about all they could do. It wasn't a flashy summer, but it was smart... Major injuries aside, they will absolutely make the play-in.

Okay, but what I was getting at was that the Clippers also have a lot of older/injury-prone players as well. Kawhi, Christopher Paul, harden, Beal, Batum, Lopez. Those 6 players will most likely be getting the bulk of playing time.

The difference is most of those guys were signed to be bench players. Starters for LAC are likely Harden, Beal, Kawhi, Collins, and Zubac, two of those are in their 20s and all but James Harden are under 35. Big difference to the Warriors who are relying on at least 3 and possibly 4 players 35+ to be starters for them without a lot of depth behind them.
