The Chicago Bulls will retire Derrick Rose’s No. 1 jersey on Jan. 24, 2026, in a postgame ceremony on the court when the team hosts the Boston Celtics. The celebrations will feature a United Center atrium experience, presented by BMO, FanDuel, Giordano’s and Paylocity for fans to enjoy throughout the evening – additional details about the ceremony will be shared at a later date.
To celebrate the announcement, the Bulls will display graphics of Derrick Rose outside the United Center and in the atrium today from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Fans can join in and celebrate Derrick throughout the season by attending four games, during which the Bulls will give away collectible Derrick Rose figurines at gates throughout the United Center while supplies last.
The four figurines represent different chapters of Derrick’s Bulls career.

Love it, he absolutely deserves his number retired.
If guys like Avery Johnson and Zach Randolph can get their jersey retired, so can Rose.

No problem with the jersey retirement, but feels a bit slimy to have had DRose night last year and then milk it into a jersey retirement this year.

Anything to get fans in those seats since this upcoming season is another bad one.

Good for him and I'm fine with it, though I suspect a not-from-Chicago player with the same career may not have gotten his jersey required. But it'll make the fans happy, and that's the business the Bulls are in.
Well, maybe not, but still.

Re: Bulls announce D-Rose Jersey Retirement
I don’t think he deserved a jersey retirement. Most he achieved on the Bulls is a regular season MVP and reaching the Eastern finals just one time.Dont get me wrong he was amazing (pre injury)but it was way too short and isn’t enough imo.
Was a big fan of his but soured on him the way he handled his injuries from both the ACL and MCL surgeries. Also that whole rape case he was accused of gave me a different view of him even though he was acquitted. He’s not a that quiet/humble kid we thought he was.
I find it odd how the Bulls org not only traded Rose but never had any relationship with him all these years. Didn’t even try to bring him back as a player but now all of a sudden they want to retire his jersey once he retired.
Bottom line though disregarding his decision making on his injuries or off court stuff and only judging from a basketball standpoint he doesn’t deserve this. With a championship or at least a couple of final appearances it would make more sense. Maybe if even he played at a high level a bit longer until his early 30s I would have been on board, but truth is after he tore his ACL he was never the same again.

next year will be the 15 year anniversary of the 62-20 Bulls, multiple sources tell me they're planning a ceremony to give all the members of the team a "toe ring of honor"

We're probably in the minority among Bulls fans, but I agree. I'm sure most neutral fans of the other 29 teams agree too. One great season and a few goods seasons doesn't warrant a jersey retirement. Unless maybe that one great season resulted in a championship

How many players won MVP for a team and didn't/won't get their jersey retired for that team?
Saying 'well, he only won MVP" just sounds absent from reality. ROY, 3x All-star, MVP, and best player on a 60+ win team that had the best record in the league. That's more than enough. He deserves it.

Just on this bolded part, the Bulls maintained a close relationship with Rose after trading him.

How many players won MVP but only had 3 notable seasons of play in their career?
Derrick is just an odd case because there aren't a lot of players who won MVP who had their careers altered so fundamentally at such an early stage of their career.

Any player accomplishing what Rose did in 4 seasons is still extremely rare in the NBA. It doesn't matter that injuries derailed everything.

Please. Rose accomplished more in his brief peak than 98.5% of all Chicago Bulls players did in their entire careers.
He absolutely deserves to have his jersey retired.

Great. Now do Rodman and Kukoc. The Hall of Famers should be up there, as well.

Just the phrase "all he did was win MVP"...sarcasm meter is going off...its a false alarm, however.
