SAC-MIL (Monk for Kuzma)

Post#1 » by Toine85 » Fri Aug 22, 2025 2:28 am

Straight forward swap

Sac trades: Malik Monk
Mil trades: Kyle Kuzma

Why for Sac? It seems like they’ve been trying to trade Monk this whole offseason, especially since bringing in Dennis the Menace. They need more size up front and Kuzma may find that spark going back to the West Coast.

Why for Mil? Kuzma’s playoff performance seems to have soured his reputation. Also, the Bucks frontcourt seems set with Giannis and Myles. They need backcourt help and Monk can provide that microwave scorer.

feels like a dream scenario for the Bucks. This would be terrible for the Kings, so they are likely to do it.

Why would SAC downgrade without incentive?

I'd rather the Kings keep Monk over Kuzma, but Kings seem hell bent on trading Monk. So I guess this ok. I mean, it fills a need for the Kings to give Keegan some front court help. Do the Warriors want Kuzma? Swing him to GS with Kuminga going to the Kings.

The irony of Charlotte fans taking shots at the Kings.

The Kings are a bottom tier franchise of the past decade or two, but Charlotte is one of the few organizations to somehow not best the Kings.

I'm also unsure why the Kings simply do it because it is bad.

Its indeed bad for Sacramento because Kuz is horrific, but if this is even in discussions, Dallas should swoop in to see if Bucks would do Klay and Marquette's own Omax instead of Monk.

Did Monk sleep with Viveks wife or have the consensus here been terribly wrong regarding his trade value?

I mean he's never really contributed to winning basketball, is that not so valuable, an undersized 2G who cant play point. He'll be on his 4th team in 9 seasons for a reason

Was there a consensus that he had significant trade value? If so that was probably wrong from the jump. He's a streaky, undersized 2 guard who's a liability on defense and doesn't create for others. There's a million guys who fit that archetype and most of them cost less than $20M per year.

Throw in that his efficiency has been trending down for the last couple years and teams are getting tighter with their spending around the apron rules, and it's not hard to see why teams are seeing him as a neutral or even negative value player.

Kuzma won't get another NBA contract if he plays the way he did last year. Monk at least has some use even if his archetype is completely devalued in today's NBA.

Kuzma burned all his value last year going to a good team and being the worst version of himself. He doesnt even fit in with the Kings... he brings nothing they already have. DD much better scorer, Murray much better defender... They trade one of their best trade chips for a non factor?
At least try to get a more classic PG to fit in... Devin Carter is not ready if they plan on trying to win

Maybe Kuzma for Monk+Saric? That saves Sac a few million this season to sign Westbrook (crazy I know but they apparently want him). Kuzma isn't ideal but at least he's signed for one less season than Monk.

Agreed. The only reasons I can see Sacramento doing this are (1) they're just determined to move Monk for anything at this point, and/or (2) they want to shave a year off his contract.

They absolutely are not determined to move Monk. They like Monk, but he’s the piece that can be used to upgrade the wing/frontcourt, hence the rumors. But yes, the do want to free up the books long term, it just seems like every team wants to do so with this new CBA.

Adding a Saric/Andre swap still doesn’t make it fair imo but think that’s the first step and then some other minor value somehow.

This is overstating the case considerably. The Hornets didn't bring him back because he tested positive for drugs in the last year of his rookie contract. The Lakers didn't have Bird rights and were well over the cap. The Kings have had winng records with him on the roster and he had a +3.8 on/off with the Kings just last season.

He's a good sixth man who is on the trade block because the Kings inexplicably traded for DeRozan and LaVine despite having him on the roster. Kuzma is a below replacement level backup paid like a starter. If the Bucks aren't going to add incentive, the Kings should pass.
