Re: Malik Beasley: Allegations of Gambling
Important to note, despite still being under federal investigation, Terry Rozier was cleared by the NBA's own investigation and allowed to play. Could be a similar situation with Beasley. But who knows when the NBA's investigation will be done.
Even if cleared, the distractions are concerning. Obviously there's the federal investigation, but all the news about him owing money is the cherry on top. Hopefully if the Pistons make an offer, they make it clear to him he needs to get his s**t together.
I love what he can do on the court, but I've moved on. I'd welcome him back but I don't think he's as important as he was last season. The bench is already crowded. We have 3 bench guys that make $14M+ a year, and a young guy in Holland who we invested a lot of draft capital in and need to give minutes. He was also incredibly average late in the season/playoffs.

I mean...the guy is just a flat out dumbass and a POS. High end dental work, luxury apartments, personal loans, gambling and not paying any of it back. Pointing a gun at a family looking for directions.

That's a fair assessment. However, if he escapes the fed investigation unscathed & becomes NBA eligible again, should the Pistons sign him if he's willing to take a short term deal (and likely a pay cut?)? Would you do it? Are the three pointers & the shimmies worth the risk? Lol.

Re: Malik Beasley: Allegations of Gambling
If Beasley gets cleared, and the Pistons do resign him, they will then have two of the absolute best sharpshooters coming off the bench, and if you surround Cade with the best shooters,(Beasley Robinson) and two of the best lob threats(Duren Ausar), along with two dynamic ball handlers, (Ivey LaVert) you have all the makings of an absolute death star of a team, which at the center, has an all-nba, top 7 MVP vote getter.
Cade/LeVert
Ivey/Beasley
Ausar/Robinson
Harris/Holland(added 15lbs)
Duren/Stewart
That is an insanely deep team, (not even discussing Sasser/Reed/Jenkins/Lanier)and if it happens, next season is gonna be fun on the damn bun.

It's absolutely wild to me as someone keeping it together on a normal income that anyone could be evicted having made 59 million dollars in their lifetime.
A tiny fraction of that would set most of us up for life.

Crazy that they investigated him and cost him $35 million (we reportedly were going to offer 3 years $42 million) and now he's likely only going to get 1 year $7 million. Hopefully he has a great season and earns himself the money he lost and hopefully he's also able to get a lot of the other crap in his life under control and he gets 1 or 2 good people around him to help him keep his stuff in order so there's no more eviction stories, granishments, etc.

Re: Malik Beasley: Allegations of Gambling
Wow. Crazy. Depends on how Detroit treated him since the news broke would be my guess. TLnwas prepared to give him the bag and Duncan only signed here for one year basically, so another similar season and you have to figure the contract would be there again from TL. Beasley might want more PT to show out again though.

Who said that they don't already have all of the evidence they need?
Once they have enough evidence they would press charges on him and/or offer him a plea deal. They haven't up to this point based on what his lawyer has stated that its an ongoing investigation.
Then if they don't have enough evidence and don't think they will be successful why even leave the case open?
We can play this game all day... it doesn't accomplish anything.
They closed the case up. Seems like they didn't have enough evidence to charge him with anything.

Re: Malik Beasley: Allegations of Gambling
Given the money lost.and his debts and money owing, I think he looks for the Full MLE from somewhere, so likely priced out here anyways. He can't be leaving $5M plus on the table given his circumstances. Though who has the full mle left and willing to offer it?

Don't think any of those other teams withMLE would take him?
Do you think there's maybe a chance that he had good lawyers that got him off this charge?

According to the article I posted;
"Teams that have an exception to sign Beasley to a contract greater than $7.2 million include the Chicago Bulls, Indiana Pacers, New Orleans Pelicans, Sacramento Kings and Washington Wizards. The Brooklyn Nets also have cap space in excess of more than $20 million"

Re: Malik Beasley: Allegations of Gambling
Can the Piston use the 14.3M$ trade exception from the Scroder deal? I claim no expertise on these byzantine cap rules. Another question is would they want to at this point?

Re: Malik Beasley: Allegations of Gambling
If we do sign him, we can offer $7.2. For how many years? And then if we give him a player option, how does that affect how much we can give him next summer?
Also, if we do keep him, we are 10 deep with Sasser and Reed rounding out 12 guys.
Minutes to go around would be sparse

But after injuries every year having depth is also important. Guys just need to understand they might not play every night. I'm fine giving guys rest especially Duncan, Tobias, Beasley and LeVert since they are all older players.

Thanks for the list. I think Pellies and maybe Pacers could be threats for interest.
