Kuminga to Sac, with Utah sending Lauri to GSW
General Trade Structure
Sacramento Kings
Send to Utah: DeMar DeRozan + a first-round pick (plus 1–2 small filler contracts as needed)
Receive: Jonathan Kuminga (via GSW S&T)
Rationale: They land Kuminga without giving up core pieces, which they apparently want to do. It upgrades the PF spot and let's Murray play more SF.
Golden State Warriors
Send to Sacramento (via S&T): Jonathan Kuminga
Send to Utah: Buddy Hield + Moses Moody + multiple first-round picks (plus 1–2 filler contracts as needed)
Receive: Lauri Markkanen
Rationale: Markkanen is a strong fit as starting 4 between Draymond and Butler. Deal needs to be structured to allow them to still sign Horford and Melton. Doesn’t match OKC’s ceiling, but potentially positions GSW in the Houston/Denver tier of Western contenders.
Utah Jazz
Send to GSW: Lauri Markkanen
Receive from Sac/GSW: DeRozan, Hield, Moody, multiple first-round picks (plus contracts for salary balance)
Rationale: Core of the return is the draft capital. DeRozan likely bought out; Hield could be flipped for a second. Moody is a young player on a good deal who would fill a need in Utah. While not peak value for Markkanen, this helps them bottom out this year, and avoids the risk of Lauri’s value flipping to a negative if he struggles again.

This is a disaster for Golden State on so many different levels.
Lauri is not worth multiple first-round picks.
Draymond has to be a full-time 5.
Absolutely destroys our bench.
Hard caps us at the first apron.

This is functionally impossible.
Steph + Butler + Lauri + Draymond make ~$186M combined, so there's not enough room to even sign 10 rookie minimum guys and stay under the first apron.
Lauri makes $46.4M this year. Moody makes 11.5 and Buddy makes 9.2. Kuminga's outgoing salary only counts for half because of the BYC, so even if Sacramento is willing to pay him a starting salary of $25M per year, he only counts for 12.5. GSW needs to shed another ~$13.2M to avoid triggering the first apron. Even if they dump every player under contract outside of Steph/Jimmy/Draymond it isn't enough.
If Kuminga gets a MAX then we still have to dump Podz and two of TJD/Gui/Post to make it legal.

I don’t think you can legally make a roster after this without including one of Butler/Dray.
I don’t see that as realistic due to Dray’s history with team and Butler’s immediate talent, but there at least is a legal deal to be made if they did.

Re: Kuminga to Sac, with Utah sending Lauri to GSW
The value for Golden State is ok, but the fit is atrocious. This destroys their team and their ability to field a competitive roster, they wouldn't have a bench after this and they wouldn't be able to sign enough quality guys either.
I think an easier trade would be something like
DeRozan, moody, carter to the jazz
Kj martin, nurkic kings or spurs 2027 1st which ever is worse to the warriors
Kuminga to the kings
Kings get kuminga and a little roster restructure
jazz get youth and the ability to be somewhat competitive with DeRozan and lauri
Warriors get a pick and a much better roster with a quality starter at center.

Agree entirely with this. We can waive DeRozan so he can sign with a contender and we get some nice young players who play defense - a totally new concept for most of our roster. Utah could probably kick in 2nds or cash to balance.

Thanks for this... I got it to work in a trade checker, but the rules are so complex now that it's hard to know.

That’s a definite no go for GS. Nurkic in GS is not happening as long as Dray is breathing lol.
Thought about Lauri as being a likely target if JK takes the GS offer with Moody, Hield and some post Steph era draft capital as being JKs worst case scenario that really isn’t that bad. He gets paid, Jazz either give him a shot or buy him out and he’s still a UFA next summer but a lot richer.
Didn’t consider the bench roster aspect financially though. Probably will dangle the Kuminga contract if he signs it and the post Steph picks for someone like Trey Murphy as Fischer reported

I don't like it for any of the three teams.

Pre-Jimmy I was all in on Markkanen. Don't think it really makes sense anymore sadly.

numbers also dont match, Kuminga only counts as 50% going out, and Lauri is making 46M, you will have to add Draymond

On GSW - If they are able to sign Horford, Melton and Curry Lite I think they'd be fine on depth.
Start Curry/Melton/Butler/Lauri/Draymond with Pods and Horford as the first 2 guys off the bench... seems like a great top 7 with depth from GPII/Curry Lite/Santos/Post/TDJ. Even if they couldn't get Horford I think they'd be okay. Obviously the real problem is getting it done in a cap compliant way.

Utah is never doing it either, so don't stress. It's horrible for them too. Lauri isn't as valuable as he once was, but come on those picks they're getting are too nebulous to justify this.

The issue is that I don't think the warriors would be able to sign those players after trading for lauri, they would essentially be hard capped, and I know horford was offered more than the vet minimum so he would either have to sign for less or go somewhere else.
Getting lauri in a vacuum would be good, but the reality while taking the salary cap into account is they couldn't sign all of those depth pieces.
