Cavs and Nets part 2

Post#1 » by JJ_PR » Sat Aug 23, 2025 6:40 pm

Cavs get: Day'Ron Sharpe and Ziaire Williams
Nets get: Max Strus and 4 unprotected 2nds ('26 Cavs, '27 Nuggets, '28 Cavs, '32 Cavs)

Why?
Cavs bolster their bench and save money. Hunter is somewhat injury prone.
Nets add more 2nds to their collection and can flip Strus for more assets.

Anytime you can give up the best player in the trade and picks, you've got to do it.

Unprotected 2nds, no less.
Well at least we're not Detroit!

I'm not sure we're going to succeed with Strus getting heavy minutes at the 3. He's undersized and more importantly, struggles in the playoffs.

Ziaire gives us the option to start De'Andre Hunter, while having a competent wing behind him. Hunter has been injury prone in his career.

We can't go into the season with Dean Wade as the 3rd big. That's not going to work, the guy is made out of glass. Sharpe would be a worthy back-up.

Here's the video that motivated me to include Ziaire in this deal:

Zaire has started all of 95 games over 4 years for the Nets and might not make their final roster. He can't make a shot outside of 3 feet. His offensive *highlights* are fastbreak points and opposing defenses forgetting he's on the court. I see an undersized, small ball, bench big. As you're trading for Sharpe, who's actually strong enough to stay on the court in the playoffs, I don't see the point. The Cavs just let Greene, who's the same type of player, walk.

In any event, Tyson or even Proctor have a better chance of developing into a starting-caliber SF than either of these Nets players. Strus is a streaky shooter who the Cavs had to rely upon more than they would've liked to due to injuries. He defends bigger than his size and does a lot of little things like rebound and assist that make him a complimentary fit as a starter. If the Cavs want to start Hunter in the playoffs, they can just bring in Strus behind him.

As far as Wade, he was healthy in the playoffs and gave us solid minutes. We have Nance as well. What we lack is a true backup center who's a banger. I expect they'll audition guys as the season goes on and hope to get lucky like the Pacers did with Bradley.

It's a fair offer, but no thanks from Brooklyn
