Top European agent confirmed that he met with LeBron to discuss a new league

Post#1 » by Sgt Major » Sat Aug 23, 2025 6:51 pm

I'm watching the today's episode of the most popular basketball podcast in Serbia. Misko Raznatovic, Jokic's agent and the best/biggest agent in Europe, just confirmed that he met with LeBron James and Maverick Carter to discuss creation of a new league. He didn't talk a lot about the topic, just said that it would be a non-Americanized league (meaning it would a truly international project, in my opinion) and that the next summer will be interesting.

Edit: Edited the title not to confuse other posters into thinking that Jokic met with LeBron on that topic.

A minor league could be a possibility.
With teams that don't play in the current european competitions.
The heavyweights of Europe though will not participate in a league formed by a player and an agent. Let's be serious.

Sounds like they are trying to resurrect the old World Basketball League. Will probably be about as successful as that was.

I remember the old Continental BA, so the WBL must be before my time :/

I read about such leagues that existed before in a basketball book. I don't remember the name of the book.

But anyway, there were several attempts at something like this before.

The EBA or European Basketball Association

The IBA or International Basketball Association

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/European_Professional_Basketball_League#FIBA_opposition_to_the_IBA

The WBL or World Basketball League

They are going to form a super league. Way less games, way fewer teams spread out globally and no salary cap…they’ll use equity in franchises at first as well to attract top players. The first real season will be after Jokic’s deal is up. James will play his final season in this league. That’s two global superstars to start with. Luka comes off his deal the following year. It’s not hard to see how this works. They already raised five billion.

Great, I can't wait not to watch, because who cares about a LeBron run league.

What exactly are they playing for? The Larry L'Bronian trophy? What stakes are there to play for? Why would anyone care other than it being an interesting curiosity for the first game or so?

Name a league that had a historically valuable championship when it started? Yet, leagues got started. This will be about exclusivity and unlimited earnings and of course James owns a team.

When it went against an established league? None, which is why they never take off.

There’s an established global professional basketball league? 29 teams in the NBA are in one country. Don’t overlook the money. No cap, plus equity. Giannis comes off his deal the same year as Jokic. You can start this league with just those three guys, more would be coming soon. They’d make more money, play less games and be globally famous. It’s a pretty good proposition.

Fewer. Games are countable so we say fewer, not less.

How in the world do fewer games and fewer teams equal more money?

As well connected as LeBron is, the talent is what makes the nba what it is. Can't imagine this going anywhere.

The study of economics is the study of scarcity. That means there are *fewer* for sale and the price goes up.

For the players it's a great proposition. For people who want to watch the league? Exactly what makes it a good proposition? There are no stakes, no teams that have any roots. It's a bunch of really great players who already make a ton of money who are now making more money. What are they playing for?

People think players are the end all and be all of the NBA. No doubt about it, players are a key part of why the NBA is so great. But so is the history of the league.

What’s in it for the fans? The best players in the world playing at the top of their game with the best supporting cast money can buy. Besides that…nothing.

But why would these guys be trying? For what? The LeBron Trophy? They already will be making a ton of money in this new league.

And since when are NBA fans nothing but player only fans?

NBA teams won’t go away. It will just be a feeder league like the Euro league is now to the NBA.

They’ll be playing for the same basic reason they do now…to beat the other guy. Winners want to win. It doesn’t matter the stakes, Jordan is famous for this with cards and golf, etc. Bird was the same. They just want to beat you. And if that’s at the highest level in the world, in front of a global audience…even better.

It’s a PIF project. They have almost a trillion dollars to play with. Sounds like it’s a similar investment they made to LIV but basketball is more popular so wouldn’t surprise me if they up it. They’re obviously getting LeBron onboard like they tried to do with tiger and failed. They probably don’t want to lose LeBron.

Now if it works, who knows. But I think this has legs
