I think (if Beasley comes back) we will have a solid, playoff ready, backcourt.

Absolutely. Next season, mark my words, Cade/Ivey are going to be in the conversation for best backcourt.

You throw in arguably the most dangerous 3-ppint shooter in the league, alongside a certified bucket getter at the rim, who can also pass?

I remember when the team drafted him, I was pissed. I didn't think he would work with Cade at all, and wasn't going to able to start hitting a respectable % from deep.(34%)

All that was blown out of the water for those 30 games last season. I am now looking forward to having an all-star backcourt again. When the Pistons are truly successful, they have a great frontcourt, (the PF position in this team still gives me pause, but we'll see how Ausar evolves into that role) and best in league backcourt.

Of course, he definitely needs to work on defense and decision making. But I think he passed the eye test more than the stats showed, albeit it was a small sample size like you said. Like I'm sure there's players in the league with similar "replacement player" stats, that people consider to be very good. Even as far as teammates go, his PER was higher than guys like Tobias, Malik, and Schroeder.

I think the biggest thing that gets overlooked with Ivey, is he may be our must clutch player. I think he had two buzzer beaters in his 30ish games last year? And that's not something that plays a huge factor, but considering Cade couldn't get it done in multiple big moments in the Knicks series, it's definitely not irrelevant. Hell, let's be honest, Cade's game winning three in the regular season was a fluke banked in three.

Our offense with Cade injured/resting/on the bench is not good at all.

Cade off, last year: -0.3 points per 100 possessions

And those numbers include the now elsewhere Schroder (+4.3 on, +1.5 off) who was actually very good for us. The non-Schroder on/off for Cade is even more drastic.

Cade’s gonna play 34-35 mpg again because that’s what makes us a legit team.

I know Ausar wasn’t playing much yet and we hadn’t come together as a team, but the first 30 games with Ivey on the floor were really ugly. His defense remains bad, like it or not, and he’s barely passable as a facilitator. The numbers for those 30 games are brutal: Ivey on, -3.9, Ivey off, +3.7.

Cade is going to play 35ish minutes not because the team flops without him. 35 mpg is just a really standard number for an nba all star on any generic team. It's not like we road him into the ground or anything.

The problem was the playoffs. He was #2 in minutes. That's too much, especially playing on the ball all the time and his efficiency took a big hit.

I still have hopes for Ivey on D because he has the physical tools. Players taking until 23-25 to figure out how to play NBA defence isn't unusual.

But one thing that Ivey simply has to improve to be a positive player is his turnovers. He has way too many turnovers considering his role and usage; his assist:turnover ratio is below 2; he hasn't really shown any progress in his first 3 years. He just has to get control of the number of times he jumps in the air without a clue (leading to turnovers or bad shots).

Ivey's turnovers is what I'll be paying most attention to this upcoming season becasue he has no hopes of becoming an adequate floor leader until/unless that gets a lot better
