If Jett Howard can develop into that, that would be a homerun but no confidence in that.
I think Jase jumps the line with Cole out of the way.

And-1
Assuming Suggs misses 15-20 games, that ensures that Richardson will log big backup minutes in important games.

I seriously doubt Jase gets big minutes behind Black and Tyus. I see G-League for development at some point pending pre-season performance. And, that is to make it as a 4th PG on a team and likley 3rd. Might get 5-7mpg. Be fun to watch.

Jase is a much better pairing with AB than Tyus…all 3 will play and Jase might be key to AB’s breakthrough as a PG. AB will not be handling much with Tyus on the floor. I expect a lot of interspersed lineups between starters & bench. Franz, as always , will likely continue to get a fair amount of non-Paolo minutes with some of the second unit

Mind you Jase is the 4th PG on the team, thus I seriously doubt he gets much playing time regardless. He will spend time in the G-League or riding the bench. Tyus and AB will get plenty of time to build chemistry together and Jase is not eating up that time.

Jase will be a more feared scorer from day 1 than either of them...not a better player, but more of a scoring threat...I don't think "4th String" anything is what he is...he's a multi-level scorer that might play some point...Tyus is the only "real" PG on the roster and that's not really going to matter much. The only roster conflict is the idea that we can play multiple non-scorers together.

lol
I said “Whoa, did someone give this kid the LeBron confidence setting? ..”

Now we just need him to do that in the real games.

Iguadola is a good comparison. Black is the same exact age now as Iguadola was in his rookie season. Iguadola averaged 9 ppg in 32.8 mpg.zaymon wrote:Orlando Dawg wrote:Do not pick up Black or Jett’s 4th year and trade them both this year with value as expiring contracts
I dont think its something we should hope for but we shouldnt rule it out.
Black has more offensive juice than Thybulle but a lot less than Iguodala. A 4-5 option we dont really need unless we trade 1/3 of our roster..

I could see Black getting a mid level type extension, and his best season will be next season after he's already signed.pepe1991 wrote:basketballRob wrote:Iguadola is a good comparison. Comparing players from 20 years ago and their stats is useless.
in 2004 Igoudala averaged 9,4 ppg as a rookie on 58% TS.
For that season that was around 100th in scoring & 5% over league's average in efficiency (TS average was 52,9% )
In 2024-25, averaging 9,4 ppg would make player 140# in scoring and league's average efficiency is now 57,6% .
So Igoudala's comparable numbers in some crappy attempt to translate them 2024-25 would be: 11,3 ppg on 63% TS. Such player would be ROY.
In addition, rookie Igoudala only had 13% usage rate, Black last year already had near 20% but played less min. Also Igoudala started each and every game as a rookie, Black is career backup.
During his 3rd year (age 23) , Igoudala averaged 18- 5,7, & 5,7. Who else did it that year: Kobe, Tracy, Kidd and Lebron. That's how elite he was.
There are some similarities in their game, but Igoudala was one of most athletic players in nba and one of best defenders and very productive starter who once upon a time lead team to second round of playoffs as best player + was all star.
Black is non of it. Black is bench role player.
It's not even in Magic's best interest that Black breaks out(he won't, he has too many limitations ), because they can't afford him being anything more than role player and paid as such.
