Mt Rushmore of guards
If you were building a team around a player in today's league, which guards would be the top 4 choices to build around?
Assume you get the player for their whole career.
NB: this is not about them all playing on the same team.

Re: Mt Rushmore of guards
My top 5 would be Jordan, Magic, West, Oscar, Curry, in some order with heavier weighting of availability moving Oscar up and lower moving Curry and West ahead of him. SGA and Luka are still too early in their careers to judge their durability and longevity, Kobe, Paul, and maybe Stockton would probably be my honorable mentions.
I believe that greatness transcends era for the most part and that if Magic, West, and Oscar came up today they would still be the best in the league.

Re: Mt Rushmore of guards
So this is about -today- league, straight time machine argument and notghing about full career or greatness/legacy?
Jordan/curry/magic/kobe + then followed shai/paul/luka/nash right after albeit i could move kobe and magic down for two of the latter group too
(In fact i am tempted to go shai>kobe but giving kobe the advantage still until we have better sample for shai amd seeing how he stacks up)

I really wish we could see an alternate universe where CP3 comes into the league 10 years later than he did

Re: Mt Rushmore of guards
To me this is a somewhat misleading thread title. Mt. Rushmore of guards is not the same as 'who would you take today in a vague hypothetical scenario'. Mt. Rushmore for any sport is usually thought of as just career greatness within that sport. Changing it to 'who would you choose today' to me is an attempt at changing that meaning and is disingenuous.

This is just the OP once against trying to shove his lack of respect for players not in the modern era down everyone else's throat. Just because Luka is thriving today doesn't mean he should be considered a greater player at this point than Oscar or West, but that's what the OP is trying to trick people into saying. Transparent as usual.

Re: Mt Rushmore of guards
But if we ignore the nonsense and just answer the actual question, I mean its probably SGA as he just led a team of kids to an absolutely dominant season. He's the most proven answer to the question. Then you probably have to go with Steph.

I agree. Were it just a random post from whoever you could say its something else but with O&D we all know that it's his obsession on here to do this sort of thing.

Agreed it's a misleading title... unless your answer to the two questions happens to be the same four players!Cavsfansince84 wrote:To me this is a somewhat misleading thread title. Mt. With my criteria it is more or less the same.

You know what you are doing and are tacitly admitting it with this reply.

It's unclear to me why I can't use my own criteria as the parameters of a thread, since they are just as valid as anyone elses. In another thread I just started about the Lakers I said 'use whatever criteria you like'.
My Rushmore generally indicates the top 4, but people have different criteria for determining that. Alot of people disagree with the actual Presidents on the actual Mt Rushmore, or that there should even be a Mt Rushmore.

It's unclear to me why you are saying you can't do it when you already did. I have no power to lock or delete this thread nor necessarily would I if I could. Changing the most popular meaning of a word to suit your own criteria and view of the term is a somewhat disingenuous use of that term though imo and I don't think I'm the only one who would say this. Just say '4 best guards to build around in today's nba' if that's what you want this thread to be. You chose the term Mt Rushmore because you want those two things to be the same in the minds of people who read this thread.

I thought I was having deju vu, but no, he's done this same thread with misleading title before:

Re: Mt Rushmore of guards
Would be funny if the actual Mt Rushmore worked like this. Which 4 historic presidents would be best in 2025
