This is the kind of thing that Hawks fans too often talk themselves into.
What changed under Snyder is that Trae learned to
try on defense by communicating better and gambling some in passing lanes.
He had a stretch of ~6 weeks last year where the extra effort was noticeable, but that stretch was also one of his worst offensively. He just cannot sustain both at the same time. His second-half defense in the play-in games was painful to watch.
His defense is what it is: bottom 5th percentile or worse. He doesn't have the strength, length, stamina, mentality, or instincts to change that.

Unfortunately, that version of Trae isn't enough of a difference-maker. He's not always efficient when he's high usage but he's
only effective when he's high usage. You have to take the lows in order to get the highs.
The Hawks have seemingly acknowledged this reality by trying to build a roster that maximizes Trae in a high-usage role.
