The Bucks being a backup plan for the Kings or Warriors amidst the Kuminga standoff would explain the delay.

It’d be way less clear comparatively why a Barrett or Simons deal wouldn’t have already been done.

Doesn't seem far out there that we could open up over MLE of actual cap space, not hard cap ourselves (by using the MLE) and retain all our dudes (KPJ/Green/GTJ) at the cost of the KKEC mystery box.

Didn’t realize we could have more than the MLE in cap space (and keep our guys) if we were to just clear Kuz’s deal, thanks for tracking down.

Does that count an AJ Green extension this offseason?

Either way I’m skeptical of Simons’ fit on the court.

Committing to another undersized sieve defender would be rough, and I’m hopeful some combo of our young guards will fill the offensive void.

Of course plenty of reason to be skeptical of Kuzma on the court too!

And if the Bucks don’t intend to deal any/many future picks then the salary slot approach wouldn’t be as valuable either.

Not claiming to be a cap expert or anything but cap projected to be at 165.5 and we'd be at like 169 with Kuzma. Remove his 20, unless they show anything this season (if they're even still here) you could clear like 5 more from Ajax/Smith, Prince and Harris would both see (small) raises by opting out and signing another minimum deal could be like another 7.5. You'd have some cap holds on like AJ and the first and maybe some other odds and ends but there's a world where we have a nice chunk of cap space while retaining rights on KPJ/AJ/GTJ and a lot of space to work under the tax.

I don't think Simons is that good, not really a tremendous fit either, paid way too much to pencil in moving him elsewhere as well but if it's essentially free, getting out from under Kuzma seems super beneficial to us. Much more than hoping Kuzma and a couple picks land a crazy difference maker IMO.

If there is a way to trade Kuzma and AJax or Prince for a player who has one year one year 27mil left on his deal you do it for the cap flexibility next off-season.

I don't care who it is. But Simons isn't any good.

The nice thing about trading for Simons is if he is a horrible fit and is annoyed with a reduced minutes/bench gunner role then you just buy him out and he’s no longer a problem. You get out of the Kuz contract and end up being one of like three teams who could pay above the MLE next offseason.

In the meantime, getting Kuz off the floor is addition by subtraction.

If the Celtics would legit do Kuz for Simons straight up, that’s an easy yes.

Simons feels like he “could” be our Jet Terry or Jordan Poole on a title run. Necessary scorer off the bench when **** gets tight. Not sure he has the same mindset of those two though.

If all it takes is dumping Kuz, sign me up

Clarkson, Crawford etc types too. I was just gonna say there seems to be a bit of a rush to completely dismiss a young player who's been in a crappy tanking situation. Who knows how he turns out but he's still young and has shown he has the #1 skill in the NBA right now in shooting. I can't claim to have watched much or know him, but someone like him in the right situation could easily be turned into a winning or useful player if he has the right attitude. The killer is that he's already been paid so there's no real 'buy low' type thing to it, but as other said if its Kuzma or him I'm taking him and hoping put next to Giannis unlocks something in him. In the Bucks situation, its the type of moves they have to try and hopefully they get lucky

i find it very hard to believe that anyone wants two years of Kuzma even if they do save some tax money.

regardless, i dont want Simons. he's just Dame light. worse on offense, worse on defense. no thanks.

the only reason i would trade for Simons is if we have a deal lined up that requires a bigger contract going out. other than that, let's continue to only add pieces that fit around Giannis perfectly. defense is not optional.

Simons is a much better fit than Kuz next to GA. Simons can shoot, Kuz can’t. Both hurt you on D, Simons because he can’t stay in front of guys and Kuz because he gets completely lost off ball and might be the lowest IQ player in the league.

Add in potential cap space, a bigger contract slot to flip at the deadline, and that it shouldn’t cost draft compensation due to the huge amount of tax savings for the Celtics, and it’s a no brainer.

If Boston thought Simons was a winning player he wouldn't be on the block. If were doing it purely as a get off the Kuzma money early and we don't have to give up much of anything else then sure I can see it. From a player standpoint though as was pointed out he's literally Dame light and too short. You kind of have to be 6-5 the way the league is moving.

Yeah, if I didn't already feel good about the guard rotation I'd maybe be interested, but being "lesser Dame" AND Boston doesn't want him with Tatum out? Seems like a bad idea.

The Sacramento Kings could trade Devin Carter to open up a spot for Russell Westbrook, according to NBA insider Jake Fischer of The Stein Line.

The Kings are the only team interested in Westbrook, who played for the Denver Nuggets last season.

“Sources say that Sacramento continues to covet Russell Westbrook to join Dennis Schröder as a marquee newcomer to Sacramento’s backcourt, but a trade of some sort to ease the Kings’ backcourt logjam could well be needed first,” Fischer wrote. “Yet there are some around the league who see Devin Carter as the incumbent King more likely to be moved to help facilitate a Westbrook signing rather than Malik Monk. The Providence product, of course, was drafted by the Kings when their front office was helmed by the since-departed Monte McNair.”

Giving up either Monk or Carter for Westbrook would be insanity.

If nothing else, Shams is at least going to give it a rest til the season. But he's doubling down that Giannis was actually ever exploring options. Can't just admit they were wrong. Nobody on ESPN can. Windbag did the same thing, saying Giannis could still be traded, after extending.

It's a guaranteed contract, so that means someone's out. Simplest answer is Jackson - waive or trade into space. And I think this means Coffey never stimulated the Bucks to the point they were going to offer him a guaranteed contract thru the back door. It's just a camp deal.

That last little tidbit about Giannis is annoying. Shams already moving his bs to the trade deadline and we'll hear about Giannis exploring his options for another few months. Giannis isn't going to ask for a trade and he certainly isn't going to ask for one mid-season. I hate Shams with a passion now.
