FIBA Mamu @ Eurobasket

Post#1 » by Kobe Anunoby » Thu Aug 28, 2025 12:43 pm

Mamu is playing along side Goga & Shengelia for Georgia at Eurobasket, personally I think Georgia is going to be slept on in this tournament. Hoping he can show some flashes of that scoring he showed last year since he should have an abundance of touches. What are your thoughts, expectations and observations for his role on Georgia & Raps.
He also seems like a great personality, very excited to see him coming off the bench this year

Currently Georgia’s team is moving the ball beautifully and Spain is crumbling. Mamu is hitting shots and playing well. It’s the third and he’s got 15 5 5, while playing within the offence

The only thing I'd be looking for is defensive improvement. His issues there are why he's unplayable and a bench warmer in the NBA.

Yeah his offensive numbers from last year are pretty spectacular.

Obviously it’s hard to compare and judge someone’s performance in a Eurobasket game to what he can do in an nba game given the difference in athleticism and depth of talent but given that mamu looked good. He’s not a defensive stopper nor will he ever be but he looked good out there especially compared to his teammates and competition. Also Mamu’s role on this team is to be a scorer so you arnt going to see him extend all his energy in this department since he’s to be a primary or secondary scorer depending on the matchup. But that all being said he didn’t look unplayable today.
It will be interesting to see him match up against a team like Greece, Germany & Serbia

TCL PLAYER OF THE GAME
Sandro Mamukelashvili showcased his all-around game for Georgia as he collected 19 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists. The NBA power forward became only the second Georgian player with to have a 15/5/5 statline in a EuroBasket game, after Tornike Shengelia, who did it twice.

I have zero expectations for him as a Raptor, and I'm kind of surprised people are (seemingly) so high on him

I'd be happy to be wrong in this case

Expectations are that he's better than Orlando Robinson and maybe even Kelly Olynyk. I just want him to be a solid backup that outplays other teams backup C's.

I'll take a 37% 3pt shooter we can slot at the 5 with a decent catch and go game

Would it be more productive to play Mamu at the 4 and play Mogbo/CMB at the 5 on the second unit?

He's essentially a upgraded version of Kelly. Clearly not a real center and horrible defense but put him beside scottie or cmb and you can make something work

Good showing for Mamu. There's even less spacing in FIBA comp so it's good that he can get his offense off like that. The on-the-floor game and playmaking are nice to see too. But I have a feeling he's more skilled/fluid than people expect. He's more than just a jump shooter. Pretty much in his prime years now so they should be getting the best of him this season. Probably will be our most skilled big since Ibaka/Gasol left. I definitely think he's gonna surprise a lot of people.

he can be kinda sorta like kelly, decent size that can spread the floor and hit the 3 and pass it, and of course dont expect much defense but for a bench big you cant ask for a lot

He's got good mechanics on his three and a pretty quick release for a big man.

I can see him playing the bench stretch 4 on offense, with CMB roaming the paint for boards. On D, they would switch with Mamu taking the C and CMB taking a wing or second big. Their skill sets are kinda flipped in that sense.
