Man I wish team GB had just one player taller than 6ft 8. Lithuania were always going to beat us easily but watching them get offensive board after offensive board was tough to watch.

Goga didn't get a ton of burn but his cameo in the 4th put the nail in Spains coffin. 2 triples and an alley-oop slam as well as very active defence.

Crazy how little interest Europe has for basketball. It's soccer's world, rest of sports just exist. In Germany more fans care about handball than basketball.

Very poor attendances so far. Reflects really badly. For all of footballs dominance, you have to wonder about the marketing effort behind Eurobasket.

I blame FIBA, joined hosting among countries that aren't even close to each other, scheduling makes it impossible for hardcore fans to watch all the games, marketing has been crap, qualifications have been one of most idiotic things sports have ever produced, 24 teams format for Europe is complete BS...

That said... 1000 people in arena is epic.

If they want to make this thing feel special, it has to be in majory city, or several big ones, close to each other, and with actual marketing ( and normal qualifications). But it won't happen because FIBA holds grudge on Euroleague and can't stand NBA .

Just fact that countries play qualifications during regular nba & Euroleague season so no good players can participate is middle finger to all the fans and players.

And i wrote on General Board, Cyprus, as host, lost 17 out of 18 games during qualifications and as host, still qualified. begs the question: why are teams who are qualified - part of qualifications if they can't be eliminated? :banghead:

Basketball is not a TV friendly sport for many european countries especially Germany. Waaaaayyy tooooo maaaaaanyyyy commercialbreaks. Football is so loved because its simple & only 1 break in the middle. Basketball is pretty nonexistent in german TV/News even when Dirk was a top 3-5 player.

FIBA /40 min games aren't THAT bad due limited amount of timeouts, but still games tend to drag forever.

Attention span among younger generation simply isn't big enough for current sports products that aren't top tear ( american football in usa, football in rest ). Tennis is first sport on my mind that probably declined in popularity because how it's played. When Nadal was on top they changed rule to stop him from his "ritual" serving that took forever.

Cyprus basically has the same problem, they would’ve beat Bosnia-Herzegovina if they had a good center. The Bosnians traveled well to Limassol.

FIFA hosts get automatic qualification, too. That’s not a problem. If Cyprus was just slightly better, they’d sell out every game.
I’m in Limassol now. Was at Cyprus-B&H and there were 2500 in there. 1200+ were Bosnians.
I was at Greece-Italy. 7,000 sellout. There were more Cypriots for Greece than for actual Cyprus.

I was at the EuroBasket 2022 Berlin semifinals and those were electric, but the first game wasn’t a sellout.

The problem is ticket distribution and how difficult it is for fans to get their hands on tickets. And it’s very difficult to sell tickets on a secondary market. So you end up getting empty seats when people that bought early don’t go.

I can’t speak about the other 3 EuroBasket host cities, but Limassol is doing well all things considered. There will be more hype as we enter the weekend.
I expect great attendance for the knockouts in Riga.

I’ll be at Greece-Georgia on Sunday. That Georgia win over Spain was technically an upset, but they’re better with Shengelia back.

Germany is playing Sweden today. I expect limited minutes for Franz and a lot of time for Tristan.

I wouldve thought Goga would be their go-to-guy... but he isn't. At all.

I dont think any team with Goga as a go-to guy would go far… he is alright but I dont think he has that skillset even if he is the only NBA player of that team.

Time to ask serious questions who works with Franz on his outside shot and why he merging into Fultz.

That shot looks terrible.
