Got my main guys in their primes in Fox/OG/Siakam all on expiring contracts so I can pick and choose who to bring back next year based on their IRL play.

Got a decent core of youngsters to usher in the next era of Atlanta Hawks BAFsketball Dyson, Lively, Wells and LeBron James.

Good glue guys like Melton, Robert Williams, Lowry.

And even a few playable guys filling out the 11th-15th roster spots in Olynyk, Horton-Tucker, Fontecchio.

Smh, if you wanted a young team, you shouldn’t have let go of gueye

I miss box scores
I miss back to back games
I miss setting rotations
I miss selecting offensive/ defensive strategies
I miss checking the injury report with fear in my heart
I miss seeing Giannis drop 44pts/15rebs/9ast in a win

Ratings can’t drop soon enough!

Re: Build a Franchise (Season 9) Discussion Thread

Post#908 » by Busta Bucket » Wed Aug 27, 2025 5:44 am

After inheriting a team that finished the 2024-25 season in the middle of the pack, the new BAF Celtics GM, Busta Bucket, began retooling immediately. In fact, only four players who ended the season on the BAF Celtics remain on the squad. In the process, the team has gotten considerably younger and, new management believes, it is now better positioned for sustained success.

The youth movement was launched by dealing Justin Champagne and the #25 pick in the draft for what ultimately amounted to the #20 pick (Maxime Raynaud, 22, who the team targeted and, it's rumored, was saught by at least one other team in the high-20s), the #26 pick (Ben Saraf, 19), and promising big Tristan Vukcevic, 22. The Celtics then jumped at the opportunity to buy low on Jarace Walker, 21; and kept its #31 pick to select Noah Penda, 20, who showed in Summer League why many draft experts had him much higher on their big boards. Following the draft, the team acquired the rights to a third first round pick, Jase Richardson, 19, who also had a very encouraging Summer League performance.

While (presumably) many GMs across the BAF were puzzled by the decision to flip Chet Holmgren for Scottie Barnes and a 2026 1st round pick, management maintains that it was in line with its overall objectives, as Barnes is a young All-Star with room to improve, the team saves $61 per year in the deal, and the pick may end up being quite valuable [ed. note: sorry, Cap :( ]. Moreover, Barnes promises to provide a far more welcoming and cohesive presence in the BAF Celtics locker room*.

In a final big move before free agency, the team was delighted to a acquire Deni Avdija, an increasingly dangerous young two-way forward who is still four years away from free agency (and, not for nothing, happens to play on Bucket's favorite IRL team).

As the free agency period approached management actively canvassed the league for more potential deals, and while the team didn't make another big splash, it was able to clear cap by moving off of a couple of bench wings who did not fit the vision. The BAF Celtics also signed solid young guards Davion Mitchell, Tre Jones, and Pelle Larsson (who management seems inexplicably high on), and retained Kevin Huerter for cheap (though shrewd observers note that he was only given a short two-year deal, perhaps belying the GM's lack of BAF experience).

While the BAF Celtics intend to be competitive in 2025-26, management readily admits that the roster remains a work in progress, as it currently lacks any rim protection whatsoever and it needs at least one more star to truly compete in a loaded eastern conference. While Bucket will continue to work the phones and listen to any and all offers, additional major moves may need to wait for the summer of 2026, when Jimmy Butler's hefty contract expires. But for now the squad is sure to be fun to watch -- with a fast, team-oriented offense and a pesky, switchable defense -- while maintaining flexibility to get better through both internal improvements and opportunistic deal-making. Anchored by two under-25 studs on long-term contracts (Barnes and Avdija), and surrounded by a collection of even younger talent, the BAF Celtics feel optimistic about their future.

Nonetheless, Bucket tempers this enthusiasm by noting, "I still really have no idea how any of this actually works."

*Per sources, Holmgren repeatedly -- and, apparently, with increasing belligerence -- refused to comply with the Celtics strict "no bucket hats in the locker room" policy, which dates back to the days of Red Auerbach. Behind the scenes, the consensus among Holmgren's teammates and coaching staff -- not to mention the ghost of Red, who followed the team to the TD Garden -- was that his behavior had become a distraction that they were eager to jettison.

I been offering bigs for cheap in the off-season. But when the games begin and injuries start piling up.

Busta and I discussed the Chet move offline and it makes perfect sense. He has an annoying face and hair and that completely warrants moving on.

Clearing cap space is a lot more fun than treadmilling.

This will be a relaxing season for me.

I'm also feeling much more relaxed in a season where I'm not trying to push towards the cup.

We'll be competing though... unless my wayward pick finds its way home.

Sorry, I assumed everyone provided their own dumb off-season wrap ups / puff pieces.

But in case anyone has questions about the rule that Chet "Stupid Hair And Punchable Face" Holmgren consistently violated -- it is very clear:
