Greece - Italy were playing also now.

Good win against Italy, Giannis dominated with 31 14/20 3/4 FT 6rebs 2 assists 5 turnovers. No other Greek got a double digits. Still actually maybe we have a few shooters right now, but we have a hole in rebounds. Still scrappy team anyone who face us will suffer.

Edit: keep your eyes on Saliou Niang from Italy, he oozes potential

34/4/9, 5STLs, 2BLKs and efficiency index of 42. Plus played entire 2nd half even at center position because Slovenia has nothing there. Yeah, he's done so bad  The fact that he managed to collect 9 assists with this YMCA team is quite amazing.

Loyd also amazing 32pts with eff index 30 for Poland.

Felt bad for Polish fans wearing Jeremy Sochan jerseys and he’s not even there

Andreas Obst
Mateusz Ponitka
Giannoulis Larentzakis
Vaidas Kariniauskas
Jordan Loyd
etc., etc., etc.

It's always funny how any random EuroLeague, EuroCup, or FIBA BCL role player can look so good in these national team tournaments like the Olympics, World Cup, or EuroBasket.

And if it's something low level like the AmeriCup - FIBA BCL / EuroCup level guys look like all time greats.

The funniest one is Zach Auguste on Team USA - he was not good enough to even make Greece's training camp, yet is Team USA's best big man.

Doesn't Croatia have NBA-caliber guys in its team?

Where is Croatia anyway? Why aren't they playing?

And if it was just FIBA level. He's not really all that effective at the EuroLeague level, which on average, has much better teams and players.

Greece had a solid win but a lot of sloppy turnovers and the alarming thing, for me, is the clear lack of chemistry between Sloukas and Giannis. He couldn't throw a proper lob and the timing was off. Even the diminutive Toliopoulos threw some good passes. I'm hoping Spanoulis uses Giannis more as a high-post hub sometimes to get some open shooters like Dorsey and Larentzakis. Italy played hard and stayed in the game when we were up double digits and got a bit too comfortable.

Scariolo is still Spain's head coach.

https://www.fiba.basketball/en/events/fiba-eurobasket-2025/teams/spain#roster

It's amazing how overrated Scariolo has become among fans, because he finished in the top 3 places in the national team tournaments, with the best or second best team.

As soon as he didn't have a top tier team, the good results stopped.

Spain didn't make it out of the group stage at the 2024 Olympics.

Scariolo is just considered an average level coach in EuroLeague. He made a great career move for marketing reasons with the fans, when he took on Spain's job. Now, he's super overrated from people thinking he's some great coach, when he isn't.

He's the most overrated basketball coach by fans ever.

Yeah, but Eurobasket is not exactly the Euroleague either. It's a bit "easier" for an underdog team to surprise some people, especially with good coaching. 2022 was a great example.

Sloukas is the second most selfish and egotistical player in Europe, behind only Mike James.

Anyone that has followed Sloukas' career knows what a huge cancer he is to his teams.

Spanoulis and Giannis had a beautiful combo in the pick and roll, and it was one of Greece's best plays, whenever they played.

So, if you have Spanoulis as the coach, and Sloukas is a great passer himself and great at pick and roll....

There is zero reason for chemistry issues, other than the huge ego Sloukas has. It's why a lot of people didn't even care if he was on the team anymore.

Let's just hope he doesn't start his team destroying antics.

2022 was an example of a title being purchased through free agency. Unfortunately, so was 2017. It's happened in the last two tournaments. But 2022 was at a ludicrous level.

They didn't win in 2022 because of Scariolo. Unless we are crediting him for completing the free agency deal.

Poor Luka.

So loyal to his nation, but very little help.

Slovenia is turrible.
