NBA 2K26 Player ratings

Post#1 » by PeteyPablo » Thu Aug 28, 2025 5:09 pm

I am bored and no tasks to do at work right now. This topic may have been covered and I Apologize if this is a repeat topic.

I have not played any NBA game in over a decade. But do these rating resonate with you all ?

2K rating has never meant anything, but ever since they came out with the "intangibles" stat it's completely useless.

It's an invisible stat that you can't control unless you go into edit mode on a player. It adds an artificial boost to that overall rating number. This is so they can make micro adjustments to overalls without actually changing the players real attributes. It does nothing. Most likely to make auto-rotations work when they want to force a specific starting lineup, to appease salty players/fans who want a better ratings for x player, or to perhaps push their own ranking narrative. Most likely though, it's there to cover the holes in their rating logic.

Badges also are arbitrarily decided opon by the devs too, and they as well effect that overall. Defensive badges will also weigh heavier than offensive most of the time.

TL;DR thinking the ratings are anything more than a system made for a video game is a waste of brain power. But I do love watching people argue themselves stupid over them.

I don’t understand the infatuation with Anthony Edwards. He’s a very good player, but I don’t think he’s meaningfully better than most of those guys in the 20’s.

It feels like he’s being memed into the top 5 because the media is desperate for a great American player.

ANT .395 3-point shooter with 10.3 attempts per game!

Curry is the only better 3-point-shooter, but ANT is probably better at off-the-dribble threes...

ANT didn't shoot well in this year's playoffs, only .354 downtown (and 8.7 attempts), but in last year's playoffs ANT shot .400 (and 7.2 attempts), and even back in 2022 playoffs ANT shot .404 downtown (and 9.5 attempts).

Well, he was still 23 last time he played a playoff game and just based on his age 20-23 seasons, he already has better career playoff averages than Shaq, Kobe, Kareem, Dirk, Duncan, Wade, and KG. I agree he's been a little meh in the regular season, but he's so consistently gone nuts in the playoffs that you have to give him credit.

Please tell me this is a troll.

Going off the box score, they had identical game scores for the series, but the one who doesn't play defense had a +/- of -24 for the series and the one who does play defense had a +/- of -40.

Going off this list, I'd say:

Most overrated: Bron, Ja, Booker, Trae, Kyrie, Paolo

Most underrated: Wemby, JW, Chet, Butler, Franz, Mobley,

Ratings are ridicolous in those games.
I mean I absolutely Agree Jokic is the Best player, but is he perfect?
His defense is under suspicious, he is not very athletic... But his iq and skills are out of this world.
98 or 99 ratings means their are perfect in every single way of measurement. And there any player who is god in defense, offense, shooting, stealing, blocking, rebounding, with perfect stamina, speed, jump and so on.

The problem is too many ratings are inflated, which pressures the ratings at the top to be higher.

I think once the players started caring and getting on the 2k team, who wanted to be liked, the average rating skyrocketed.

I miss the old NBA Live days when the ratings had a scale of 0-100, not 60-100. For example, a 65 overall was a solid player then. Now it's bottom of the barrel.

Getting a 90 was almost unheard of. Now Pascal Siakams are getting them.

I don’t play video games, but Im mildly interested in the ratings. It’s like another stat.

I think Curry has done enough to earn a 99 overall 3 point rating, no? Plus his three point attempts are more difficult on average.

Edwards is known for shooting 3s off-the-dribble more than anyone, while Curry is known for running off screens.
Not that its relevant, because I never said Curry didn't deserve 99... I'm just supplying the facts.
But good luck finding a reason why Edwards deserves only 87 for Three-Point Shooting, he deserves 95+.

Edwards should b a 85 and curry a 95, those feel too high for both too I would rather have a more realistic feel but it’s just a game too

I haven’t played a normal game tho just my player, but it run smooth and shooting is easy I was shooting like 80% from 3 in 10 games only taken open shots in my career and my player only have a 75 3 rating so far.. they are saying they gon have to update it

Last season Edwards was statistically almost identical to Curry in 3s.
And Edwards doesn't need screens to get his shots up...
The only reason 2K gives Curry a WAY higher rating is by ignoring the 2024-25 season.
