He's got a breakout to do before he's even on Kelly's level. He does have the more aesthetic game, and they play the same type of roll, he's just never proven anything in this league yet the way Kelly has. Would be nice to see him breakout and actually become that upgraded version. Kelly is probably cooked at this point, but he's a been a proven role player for really good teams in his career.

Upgrade on what Kelly provided for us as a Raptor / maybe not the career highs as of Kelly

I love that Mamu is such a good driver and should be able to score even when his shot isn’t falling, but he’s the perfect example of why I’m not as obsessed with the stretch big as most on here. He’s only shot 20% from 3 in the tournament so far. I always find other than the elite big men shooters (which aren’t many), they usually are very inconsistent shooters and just get labelled stretch big because they take a couple 3s a game. Their percentages could be below average but they’ll still get labelled stretch big. On that same Georgian team I much rather have Bitadze than Mamu and he doesn’t really shoot 3s. But he’s just the much better player and would be a much better back up big for Raptors than Mamu. I rather my big men be good defenders, rebounders and finishers in the paint than 3 point shooters. Thank God Mamu at least is a good finisher in the paint so he has 1 of the 3. Rebounding I don’t know and defence not so much.

It's a pretty deep frontcourt group in Toronto but Sandro Mamukelashvili has a chance for a breakout season. Should start as the primary backup for Jakob Poeltl. Raptors have to be excited about what he's shown in EuroBasket. Really good performances from Mamukelashvili so far.

Rooting for Mamu obviously, but scoring 15ppg in Eurobasket doesn’t prime you for an NBA breakout. Any more than Dennis Schroder winning World Cup MVP, which was a bigger competition.

The knock I’ve heard on him apart from his defense, is his 37% 3pt shooting last year may not be reliable given his priors and line drive form, and he’s more of a driver. 3-15 3pt shooting in tournament isn’t countering that. He’ll need the 3 to separate himself from guys like CMB and Mogbo who he’s barely bigger than.

If Mamu loses his shooting touch when he arrives in Toronto we gotta waive him. We need shooting from that position in a really bad way.

I think it’s bigger than that. He shows up with out his shooting touch you’ll see him ride the pine for a bit as our training staff tries to loosen him up and bring it back. Otherwise you’ll be putting all your insurance money on chomche, sarr or a castleton type, they just arnt as good as Sandro and provide zero spacing. Chomche needs more time. I like sarr but he’s a 905 big until he proves otherwise (he was a g league big before the Achilles injury).

I understand your not big on Sandro but that’s a crazy take

Yup. Until he proves otherwise I don’t think we should be expecting 37% from 3. Majority of his career he’s been more of a 33% shooter, so I’m expecting it to maybe be around that or a bit higher
