Mavericks Waive-And-Stretch Olivier-Maxence Prosper

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Fri Aug 29, 2025 8:52 pm

The Dallas Mavericks are using the waive-and-stretch provision Olivier-Maxence Prosper.

The Mavericks have been trying to trade Prosper to create a roster spot to sign Dante Exum.

Prosper was a first round pick by the Mavericks in 2023.

Looked like a pitbull in g league games and poodle in NBA games to me. Maybe mental block + he’s kind of a tweener.

You’d think he could be a useful player for a team in Europe.

It's (somewhat) surprising they couldn't find a taker for him and had to waive and stretch. This is a guy who averaged 3.9 points and 2.4 rebounds in 11.2 minutes on the floor. Obviously nothing incredible, but he's 6'7" or 6'8", he's a sorta ok defender, he can play both forward spots, and he could soak up backup minutes on a bad team or garbage time minutes on a good team.

Considering he was on a contract that was just slightly higher than a veteran's minimum, and he would have immediately been an expiring contract the moment the season began, and therefore useful as potential trade filler, you'd think there would have at least been some strategic value for some team in acquiring him.

Meh, either way, I'm guessing some team will sign him in a few months, maybe after a frontcourt player gets injured and will be out for a while. And, oddly enough, he'll actually wind up making more money next year than if he'd stayed with the Mavs, since he'll get the $1,002,360 they'll have pay him, plus the money from whatever minimum or two-way contract he signs with another team.

If he gets paid by anyone else. But yeah, at least a 2-way or international contract seems likely next year
