It seems quite likely he returns to the Pistons. It’s possible that a team offers more than 7.2 million but not likely at this point. That’s maybe a bit underpaid, but not a ton.

Guys like Beasley, where their entire value comes from their shooting, can be hit or miss (literally). He was awesome in Detroit last year. Before that he was a bad fit in Milwaukee (too many other bad perimeter defenders), and he struggled with his shot in LA, Utah, and Minnesota.

He was amazing for the T-Wolves for a brief stretch, and got us to pay him some real money. Then the shot went cold and it felt like the lights came on and he wasn't as pretty as we though. Total zero as a passer, really poor defense, overall bad decision maker with the ball. He can get out in transition a bit. His handles look okay enough to give him a few pick & rolls, but he doesn't make great decisions out of that.

He works to provide spacing next to a heavy-duty ballhandler. Next to Cade or Luka, it's a nice fit. I think he's a coinflip though.

Yea, is he able to? It’s a clear cost he can cite, he was offered a contract, and it was withdrawn, so damages if he can sue are pretty crystal clear.

That opens him up to much worse scrutiny. the standard of proof in criminal proceeding is beyond a reasonable doubt for a conviction. They might be able he probably did what they were alleging in civil, which is a much lower standard.

They've obviously told him they won't pursue further but part of it is he needs to stop it and move on completely.
I mean c'mon. Did you see the videos of him gunning full court for the over/unders? The dude's 100% guilty of being involved in some kind of gambling conspiracy.

He's a lucky bastard he can still play in the NBA.

No way he doesn't get picked up. Teams are just waiting for another player scandal and someone will swoop him up. He is too good of a shooter. Kevin Porter Jr found his way back into the league after some heat died down

OP,
The issue I see is that Malik expects to shoot the ball. I don't think he has any business having double digit shot attempts per game or shooting 9 3-pointers per game. In Detroit he was the Pistons third option. Now, how can I take a team seriously that has Malik as their third option?

In 6 of his last 7 seasons he has averaged double digit shot attempts per game. Guess how his teams did.......Not so good.

What you’re referring to is the Malik Beasley/Buddy Hield catch-22.

Teams end up building a large part of their offense around their volume 3pt shooting. It works in the regular season but then the Beasley/Hield types can’t sustain it in the playoffs and your offense falls apart. No team with any real playoff aspirations should invest in these guys because you can’t count on them when it matters. Now, if you’re looking to float your regular season offense, go nuts, as these guys can help.

he was great for us, mainly because we had cade handle so much of the ball handling/play making beasley could just do what he was good at - shoot. him being a c&s spacer and us being able to use him in movement sets while cade distracted the defense with a high PnR led to a lot of good things. defensively in MIL they apparently used him as a POA defender while last season we had ausar to do that so it gave him easier assignments. this season we replaced him with duncan robinson specifically so we can continue to do the same things.

beasley can be a valuable player if he's slotted into the right situation.

No doubt Beasley was a good fit in Detroit. I just don't think he's a good fit everywhere. My T-Wolves have been one of the rumoured teams, and I don't think he moves the needle for us.

The nice thing about having a big ball handler like Cade, that you can run so much on-ball stuff through, is that it's easier to slot in players like Beasley, who's smaller, and you want to keep him in situations where he can run around and fire.

You're absolutely right that he has no business taking 13 shot attempts on a team that wants to go anywhere. And if he re-signs with us he wont be.

However, the guy was absolutely lights out for us last year and provided some very much needed spacing for Cade. Up until last year, teams were doubling & tripling Cade all game night in and night out without giving up anything/us being able to make them pay for it. He is objectively one of the best shooters in the world despite his sucky playoff showing.

NBA conducting their own investigation now.

Interesting the rebound number went over. You wonder if those boards came right to him and he had no choice but to obtain the rebounds

No one's gonna sign him now. Too much of a hot potato. What happens if a team signs him and he's found guilty by the nba in a few months?
Better be asking his agent if anyone wants him in China
