Yes, and opens a roster spot to sign a free agent.

If we trade Simons and take back... say, $25 million, we can just as easily aggregate Simons + Tillman and receive back $25 million. Then we remove more money and open an additional spot

Also possible, they're waiting for aggregation day and will move Simons and Tillman out together after September 7th.

Does not make sense to aggregate Simons because that will only mean the Cs will be sending a bigger amount of money and could result in the Cs taking more money in return.

If it's just about money then just trade Simons for 2 smaller contracts.

Not that it is super-worthwhile of ongoing discussion, but technically aggregating allows them to take back LESS money since you can take back a smaller contract than Tillman since the total amount going out is higher. Tillman's salary is also small enough that most teams have an exception they can use to take that salary without sending any back. They'd get a larger TPE in the trade too.

I miss Smart (laker or not), but I’m looking at Hugo and thinking of him. Nah, not comparing ability, I feel like he has the hustle in him like Smart. He looks like he has energy on energy, and he has the tools to be a really good defender. Smart used to be everywhere when you needed it, Hugo’s motor is like that. He may not always do it right, but it won’t be from a lack of trying.

Our first bucket in SL screamed Smart, everybody easing into it, while he zooms by for the putback. Yeah, that gets me charged! Always on go is wonderful, especially when you have the instincts and know how to pay it off. Not a chicken with its head cut off.

I can’t wait, Maine or big club!

I'll address your concern with a question. Do you think Brown is going to expect to keep his 2025-26 role in 26-27?

No. He’s stepped back plenty of times, with no credit. However, even if he wants it, they’ll move him before there’s a problem.

I'm willing to trust Pritchard will be willing to step back after being given a chance to step up this year, like JB and White. Pritchard won't be happy to be in the 6th man role in the last year of his deal (27-28) in either case, but to accept an "all in" 26-27 season I don't think he'd be a problem going back to 6th man.

Personally I'm hoping to go back to JB starting at SG and bringing in an impact starter at SF or PF next offseason.

Agree about JB not getting enough credit for accepting a Robin role. Will be interesting how pace of play changes this year.

Nah, he’s not going back to the bench. People don’t do that unless their position is where the injured starter came from. Tatum is not the PG. We’d have to bring in an absolute stud guard to even think of it once we try it.

Pritch is going to kill it this season, you don’t get to that level and it not solidify in your mind that you should start! The media isn’t going to help it either.

Just have to hope it works when it’s all on the table.

If he shows up mostly the same way in the playoffs, I’ll be on here apologizing and put respek on his name. I’ll be over the moon about being wrong!!

Edit: Tatum took what 18 to 20 shots, give Pritchard like half of those shots and I wouldn’t be surprised if he can reach 25 points a game. There are a lot of shots available next season. We don’t have a lot of guys we know should be taking them, P is going to get a lot more! How many shots are up for grab with everybody we lost, like 50?

Maybe, but he deserves a chance to be a starter. Perhaps that is his best role. Won't know unless he's given the opportunity.

Small sample size but he has started 17 games in his career..

Tillman makes peanuts. I doubt that is holding anything up.

The Sep 6th - Sep 9th dates are more important for what the Celtics can take back in a Simons trade. For example if they deal with Charlotte for Connaugton + something, or with Brooklyn for Mann + something, or Chicago for Oroko + something etc. It all has to wait until after the first week of September.

It's not really about the Celtics attaching something to Simons but that could happen also.

Celtics center Queta ejected, Portugal advances.

Portugal posted a crucial 68-65 win over Estonia to qualify from Group A, despite Boston Celtics center Neemias Queta's ejection in the third quarter.

Estonia had a 64-61 lead heading into the final minute but Rafael Lisboa tied the game with 54 seconds left with a 3-pointer. Lisboa then added four free throws to finish with 17 points and five assists.

Portugal will face Germany on Saturday for a spot in the quarterfinals.

Queta was ejected with 4:34 left in the third quarter with Portugal leading by one point after picking up two technical fouls. He scored 15 points.

Perhaps he will make it back this year (at least the probability of that seems to be improving, given Walsh's assessment). He's certainly working hard at it.

I'll really be pulling for the guy. He's a really solid kid. Good head on his shoulders and quite mature for a 21 year old.

I just watched this, too:

A big question that lingers in my mind... Will Xavier Tillman be on our roster come opening day, and if so, will he surprise us by being a contributor. He didn't see much floor time last year, and some have mentioned an issue with his knee. Has that all been resolved? Were there other issues? Is he toast? We could certainly use some shoring up at the PF spot, and given that, it is somewhat surprising that we have basically heard nothing regarding Tillman, his health, and the team's expectations about him going forward. The take away for me is that we should not be counting on Tillman, but my glass half-full side remains hopeful. I will add that putting him in a corner and kicking the ball out to him for a 3-point shot is NOT a good idea. Right, Joe?

It's looking a lot like Anfernee Simons is going to be playing for the Celtics.

‪Bobby Krivitsky‬

With training camp on the horizon, Anfernee Simons is among those putting in work at the Auerbach Center.

To some of us, there was no doubt Simons was going to play for the Cs this season.

That's why it was shocking to be accused of posting dumb posts.
