Indy isn't trading us Siakam and he's not a SF, I'm puzzled at that idea tbh.

Maybe you get pick(s) attached even.
Maybe you could package him w/ Ajax because we'd get off his little $ but it wouldn't discernibly dilute the return like Kuzma. You're just asking to get some underwhelming, grass is greener on the other side, buy higher SF option to come back, while losing Green for basically nothing.
And if the Bucks, by over-stuffing their roster 1st, boxed themselves in to a pre-ordained 2-for 1 trade, killing leverage even further, they're being foolish. They had to already have determined they're willing to waive Ajax &/or Smith if need be.
I'd rather just keep the best player in the deal and try to win the title.
I'm looking at what they may be thinking in not extending Green yet. They may have qualms about going to double-digits per, and prefer a cheap role for a couple seasons when the dead $ could be starting to hinder us.
I'm keener on Green than most, so I'm not saying I'd do it. But I could understand the thought process, in conjunction w/ the return involving a real SF, and getting pick asset(s) in addition that could be attached to Kuzma, w/ other things, at the deadline, to get a more reliable #2 option than KPJ. It's purely a short-sighted thought process to attach Green to Kuz now cuz it's getting you a very flawed but expensive player back still.

Listen.
Doc wants to start 4 PFs and Turner. We, as fans, need to embrace it.

Re: Bucks News, Transactions, Trade Ideas - TA Back on One Year Deal
So we know what Kuminga's agent wants out there after this:
https://www.nbcsportsbayarea.com/nba/golden-state-warriors/jonathan-kuminga-contract-agent/1871667/
The one-year, $7.9 million qualifying offer remains the most attractive offer to Kuminga at the moment, sources continue to tell NBC Sports Bay Area. The Warriors have offered a two-year contract worth roughly $45 million, but are holding strong to a team option for the second year, while Kuminga and his camp have made it clear they want a player option for Year 2.
To ensure Kuminga doesn’t sign the qualifying offer, which essentially would eliminate any option of trading him this season and severely hurt roster building, the Warriors will have to convince him what they’re proposing is that much better than the last resort. The first way to do that is ceding the team option for a player option. The second is simply to give him more money up front, making the team option less of a sticking point in the end.
Year 1 of the Warriors’ offer is $21.75 million, per sources, but because of the base salary compensation rule, Kuminga’s outgoing salary is equal to half of that. So, much of this entire situation comes down to control.
Through four years, Kuminga and the Warriors have yet to find common ground on who he presently is as a player, who he can be with more opportunities and who he will be in the future. The way this offseason has played out only has furthered Kuminga’s desire to control his own destiny and how his future plays out. Kuminga wants to make sure that no matter who his next employer is, he’s comfortable and confident he is being set up for success from the start.
There has been confusion as to why Kuminga would hold steady to the inherent no-trade clause of a qualifying offer, as well as a player option for the second year with the assumption he wants to be somewhere else aside from the Warriors. Kuminga doesn’t want to be used as a “pawn” for a team where he has seen himself as the scapegoat, and he still doesn’t fully know what his role will be going into his fifth NBA season with the likelihood that he still isn’t a starter and might not close games.
Signing the qualifying offer is a risk for Kuminga. His agent, Aaron Turner, isn’t discrediting that. However, the risk is much more on the Warriors.
None of the NBA’s four restricted free agents – Kuminga, Josh Giddey, Cam Thomas and Quinten Grimes – have signed a contract yet. The first domino must fall soon. Nothing is close between the Warriors and Kuminga, sources say, with both sides waiting for someone to blink first.

He's definitely available. He'll be 32 when Haliburton comes back and owed 45M. Indy has no cap room next year and he doesn't match Hali's timeline at all, not to mention they have cheap owners. I'd wager $100 he's traded within 1 year. He's literally a perfect fit for this team of guys who are available, maybe Horst forces Doc's hand and sends Prince out in the trade. Either way were still 4 months away of even being able to consider it since we can't trade Bobby yet.

Indy may trade Siakam, but why would they trade him for Kuzma and Bobby?
Please reconsider your animal consumption.

I don't see why the Pacers would completely tear it down just because of the Haliburton injury. People get way too obsessed with the "timeline" stuff. Siakam's 31, not 40.

Siakam playing another 4-5 years wouldn't surprise me one iota and if he stays in Indiana that entire time that would mean they'd have him for Haliburton's prime

Based on what? You're just hoping he is. He's 31 right now, 32 (when Haliburton is back) isn't some ancient past his prime age either, and the Pacers are still going to want to compete at a high level when Haliburton returns.pifhluk23 wrote:Prez wrote:Indy isn't trading us Siakam and he's not a SF, I'm puzzled at that idea tbh.

And the thing is even if he did somehow become available due to "timeline" reasons w/ Haliburton, they're not giving up a prime Siakam for the likes of Kuzma (who is straight up negative value), Bobby and just one first.
There's a difference between "couldn't" and "shouldn't". Giannis can play the 3 and defend wings, but he shouldn't, it's a suboptimal use of his skill set/physical tools. Siakam is a better 3PT shooter (but still not a very good one outside of this past season) so it's not the same, but his best position pretty clearly is the 4, and I don't think he's nearly as good a perimeter defender as you seem to.soxperry wrote:i dont see any reason he couldnt play the 3. he's 6'8" and im sure can defend wings.

When he was 29 he was traded for 3 pretty bad 1st round picks. I consider Bobby to be worth a mid 1st + our 2031, Kuzma is just salary filler and expiring contract. I don't think it's that unreasonable, not many teams that are trying to compete can take on a 45M salary for a 31/32 year old and pay him 52M when he's 33. The new CBA is ruthless, if you aren't young and cheap then you better be Giannis, SGA, Jokic, Luka etc. I doubt there are even 5 teams in the league willing to take that contract on but they also need the pieces to make it work.

We'll certainly have the assets to make a mid-season or next offseason trade for Siakam, but he's the last player we should be emptying the chamber for purely out of positional redundancy. Horst needs to be keeping an eye on what happens with guys like Garland, Bridges, or OG instead.

It's not just positional redundancy, but also how he operates offensively as a guy who you don't want creating shots from the perimeter at the end of the clock, initiating for teammates when Giannis is off court, picking his spots on, etc. And you don't want him posting inside in Giannis' way.
Khris was really the perfect complement, when younger & healthy enough. We need to duplicate that the best we can. And I agree we'll have the assets midseason or postseason. Just need to get a hit on our last real swing w/ Giannis.

Tidbit on Ajax from Brett Siegel:
https://clutchpoints.com/nba/milwaukee-bucks/bucks-unusual-roster-decision-after-re-signing-giannis-brother
While the team has believed in his potential, the 23-year-old was on the trade block before last season's trade deadline, league sources told ClutchPoints. The Bucks were seeking two second-round picks in a trade for Jackson, but they never received an offer including more than one second-round pick.

Maybe Doc and Horst maximally want competition in training camp for the rotation much less roster.
Coffey, Ajax and Tyler Smith fighting Survivor-style to make the team could be feeding into that bigger project.

The fact that they’re cutting AJAX instead of trading him for scraps means that literally nobody wanted him and would rather try to sign him once he’s cut.
I'm not sure that would have been the case last year. Maybe not though.

This is why I think we should have a top 5 defense this year. Hybrid zone/man with Giannis and Turner closing gaps and plugging the middle.
