The Hornets are what people think the Wizards are
I am so sick of the overwhelming hatred of the Washington Wizards.
I am 100% certain that the reason why the Wizards get hated on is because of the franchise name being "Wizards". It has nothing to do with the players, the team, the history, or anything, it's all about the Wizards.
Mind you, the last time the Wizards won a playoff series was 2017. It's been 8 years. In that time the Wizards have made the playoffs in the Westbrook era.
On the other hand, the Charlotte Hornets haven't won a playoff series since 2000 and freakin 2. 2002. The Kings haven't won a playoff series since 2004. The Pistons haven't wont a playoff series since 2010 and the Bulls since 2015.
The Hornets have a lifetime win rate of 42%. The Wizards are slightly better at 44%.
The greatest player in Hornets history might be Kemba Walker. The greatest Wizard is either Wes Unseld (top 75 all time) or Elvin Hayes (top 75 all time). In addition to that there have been eras of competitive Wizards teams. Multiple HoF players have passed thru Washington. Moses Malone came in his early 30s and had 2 solid years in Washington. Everyone knows Jordan played here. Russell Westbrook had a resurgence here. Chris Webber was an All Star here.
The Wizards aren't clamoring to retire a player like Tony Allen. They wouldn't consider retiring a guy like DeAndre Jordan if his prime was here. Dell Curry isn't getting some ring of honor if he played in Washington. This franchise has a championship, it isn't desperate, it's just forgotten due to a drought, and yet the Wizards had multiple years of 2nd round exits in the John Wall era. Sure the 50 win drought is an issue, and yet for a franchise that hasn't won 50 in almost 50 years, they've won a championship and had relevant eras of basketball.
The hatred for the Wizards is 100% driven by the name, the Hornets might be newer, but even then they've never had a level of relevance comparable to the Wizards. They've missed in the draft harder than the Wizards, they've sucked more than the Wizards, and yet by virtue of irrelevance they are not clowned on as much as the Wizards, which is the go to franchise to clown on in the NBA.

Literally noone hates the Hornets or the Wizards.
Being bad doesn't mean you receive hatred.
You're hated if you become too good.

I think you're mistaking pity for hate, lol. The Wizards and Hornets are just sad franchises.
Wizards could be turning around though their new management seems smart, been making good moves lately.

The Wizards have had their moments at least, with the Arenas and the Wall eras.
Charlotte since returning have had absolutely no memorable wins.

It worse than that.
Don't believe people think about the Wizards or Hornets much at all.
You have to care to hate something.

Kemba Walker...best player in franchise history? Are you not including anyone previous to the 2002 move? No Zo, Larry Johnson, Glen Rice, etc...?
The problem with both teams has been ownership/management. Neither one has been good for years, but it does seem like the Wizards are finally moving in a good direction (once they moved on from Beal).

Re: The Hornets are what people think the Wizards are
The Hornets use to have a vibe back in the day with Glen Rice and Muggsy Bogues. Cool uniforms and their stadium the Hive and they were fun to watch . After Chris Paul left they kind of just became a bad team indefinitely. Remember the Bobcats lol. A young Steph Curry was busting chops on Hornets courts learning his craft with Dell. No major fans like Lamelo or Miles Bridges so I get your point.
I think the Wizards just got overshadowed by northeast fans who rather follow Boston or New York. They almost had a dynasty if they would have kept Webber and built around him. Since then it's just been Gil who had a short flame and then the backcourt that beat Kyle Lowry one time and that was it. Also the city has a massive violence problem like Memphis and it's just doesn't have a good narrative to paint besides the Unseld years.
I secretly hope they get a Joker or Giannis type player and dominate eventually. They got some cool gold jerseys.

No one hates the Wizards. They just aren't any good and don't have any immediately-impressive prospects, so they are treated as what they are: a bottom-dwelling team. It's weird to try and spin this as 'hate,' minding the fact that they have absolutely blown the past two seasons and were a 34- to 35-win team the three years prior to that, with 25 and 32 wins before that. It has been since 2018 that they were .500 or better. Even in 2021, when they made the playoffs last, they were 4 games below .500. They haven't been good. They are treated as if they haven't been good.
That isn't hate, that's approaching them for what they have and haven't done.

That was never a thing. Webber was never good enough for that.

Chris Paul never played for Charlotte, those were two different franchises, they do share history Thunder Sonics style. I mean Bobcats and New Orleans Hornets existed at the same time... It wasnt even long time ago, just several years ago.

Agreed. How could you even hate any version of the Wizards over the last 20 years? The team has a bad habit of acquiring a few talented knuckleheads mixed with G-leaguers. Nobody hates the Wizards, but they do pity them.

Why bring another team down to make yourself feel better?
Both teams seem to *finally* have good leadership in their FO. Hopefully both will be back to being playoff teams in the somewhat near future.

Re: The Hornets are what people think the Wizards are
It's fair to say that the Wizards are a better franchise than Charlotte, but that's not exactly an achievement.
The issue with the Wizards is that they literally have not mattered in the basketball world since 1980. Nobody thinks about you unless you can win 50 games, and the Wizards haven't won 50 games in 45 years. Until then, they will continue to be ignored (but not hated) by the league. It is what it is.
I do think the Wizards actually have some real good management right now and I expect the Wizards to build a real good team in the upcoming years. But they're probably going to tank for one more season before they actually try and win. So it'll be one more season of being the butt of jokes.

What comments or article did you read that got you this upset? I am sure there are people out there that hates any team that is not their own but don’t let their comments in or affect you.
I hope you are having a better day now that it is off your chest.
