Re: Discussing Other Teams' Moves - Part 8
Utah paid $8.2M for two SRP's. (RJ Luis Jr. is a two-way guy who doesn't count against the cap.) I thought the Wizards would be the team to do this. Niang would actually fill a void on this roster as a veteran PF.
I'm not sure how many more opportunities there will be for us to exchange our TPE's for pick capital. Boston was one of the last teams that was way over the tax and facing repeater tax penalties.

Luis went undrafted. I can't figure out how he fits in this deal at all....
For that matter, how/when did Boston acquire rights to Niang?

Thoughts on the Celtics picking up Chris Boucher? Don’t remember much about him other than his freak athleticism.

Luis is probably in the trade since they generally don't happen for nothing. Probably equivalent to a top-55 protected second or "player to be named later" in baseball.
As far as how Naing(recently) ended up a Celtic.

July 7, 2025: As part of a 3-team trade, traded by the Atlanta Hawks with a 2031 2nd round draft pick to the Boston Celtics; the Atlanta Hawks traded Terance Mann and Drake Powell to the Brooklyn Nets; the Boston Celtics traded Kristaps Porzingis to the Atlanta Hawks; and the Brooklyn Nets traded cash to the Boston Celtics. Boston also received a trade exception 2031 2nd-rd pick is CLE own

High energy guy who can impact if he gets hot from 3. Athleticism fading a bit. Not good in pick and roll as not a good screener. Can jump but bites on pump fakes and fouls a lot. May get some run on Celtics, needs a good point guard to set him up offensively. Not as good as Niang who they traded, but still an NBA player at this point.
I guess Horford to Warriors when Kuminga situation settles, and Ben Simmons to Knicks maybe. Precious Achiuwa still out there if we were interested in a big.

Awesome conversation about how the NBA has changed and RC's success in building teams over the years. I'm feeling even more optimistic about the Wizards after listening to this.

Yeah, this is a big deal.
I think we all understand that big market teams can offer better off-the-court compensation with commercial deals in bigger media markets. That's something we just live with. It's why LA and NY usually have star players on the roster. But this is more of a direct circumvention of the cap. That extra $28M going to Kawhi does not get routed through the NBA salary cap system, where it would have been lux-taxed at a 400% repeater tax rate, and that money would have been redistributed to the other owners. Basically, Ballmer stole money from the rest of the league with this stunt.

It seems like the going rate for 4th/5th man role playing forwards is about $19-24M a year. It's about what Rui makes, and Cam Johnson, Dillon Brooks and DeAndre Hunter. So this seems about right.
Of course, I'm going to have to point out that Deni makes just 60% of this while being a vastly superior player.

Aside from having turned into an altogether outstanding player, Deni is signed to an unbelievable bargain contract. No doubt about it.

Nothing will happen from this. I’m positive NBA will sweep away and discredit the source.

Right? The front office that inked him to that deal must have been excellent at their job.

And amazing win and then not so much. Snatching defeat from the jaws of victory

Nowhere to put this, fun to ponder considering how we struggled in the last Olympics.

How is the NBA going to punish the Clippers for this? And will Kawhi get fined? How do you take picks from a team that already traded them away…
