Ausar/Holland fight club. State your case.(poll inside!)

Ok, so here's the deal. No kumbaya in this thread, you have to pick. Its a tough choice, but your the GM, and gotta make a choice for the future.

I'm picking Ausar, because I firmly believe he will be a multiple DPOY winner. He is the perfect fit next to Cade, to be the point of attack defender, taking stress off Cade.

Plus, he's an awesome lob threat, cutter, and rim runner.

Ausar is obviously an ELITE defender and I think he'll find enough ways to score that he won't be a liability.... but he's offensively limited. And multiple DPOY for non-bigs is pretty tough. Wemby gonna be gobbling them all up for a while.

Ron won't be as good a defender, but I think he can hit that DeRozan/Butler tier of 2- way player.

lol, I thought it was an actual fight, and chose Holland. But a better player? I have to go w Ausar right now, since he is already elite defensively. But Holland is more likely to be a balanced two way player. Hope Pistons keep them both.

Ausar is 2.5 years older than Ron.

I think Ron has more room to improve.

But so does Ausar.

If it clicks for Ron like it did in the summer league, there will be a lot of happy Pistons fans.

And I’m very bullish on Ausars development and upside, especially considering his missed practice time during his first 2 seasons.

Ron will be a starter once Tobias retires. Probably the PF of the future. Auser is so versatile that he can play all 5 positions but see him at SF.

I have more faith in Ausar because he always seems to make an impact despite his glaring limitations, and has top 1% athleticism.

Ron all day.

I love watching Ausar play, but it’s going to take some crazy outlier development for him to not be an issue on offense when it really matters. If we keep Ausar (or both, hopefully), Duren either needs to get comfortable shooting outside the paint or he needs to be dealt. Ausar + Duren = clogged.

Ron because of the sword of democles health issue hanging over Ausar.

pretty much agree with everything you said here. i envision they use him in a mobley role offensively like when mobley was first paired with jarrett allen. ausar can handle on the perimeter a bit, cut and is a cheat code in the dunker spot with an elite play maker like cade. defensively it would be different since ausar is an elite perimeter defender.

a thing that really stood out to me in ron's rookie season is ability to finish at the rim. usually that bodes well for overall potential skill level. plus he's a good athlete, hustles hard and we saw the quick growth from summer league. a lot to like there, even if he still has a lot to learn in terms of playing the game.

This is another conversation, but the Ausar/Duren thing *could* be problematic. Ron can play with anybody.

At least until this point I'd be more worried about Duren declining defensively if Ausar leaves than potential problems on the offensive end.

Ausar has shown he is both an elite athlete and elite defender. We are of course relying on his offensive game to develop, but if it doesn't he will still always be a rotation contributor at an absolute minimum.

Ron has shown flashes but is yet to even be considered a net positive player.

I chose Ausar.

In an ideal world, keeping both would be perfect, if one of them can really start producing from deep.

Your dead on about finishing at the rim. Roho's ability to finish from weird, impossible angles, sets him apart from a ton of other players, and his handle also improved at a rapid pace throughout the season.

If you take Roho, as he is, and add a 38% three-point shot to it, you absolutely have a top tier player to put next to Cade, internally. There is a no BS, potential of having two, maybe even three all-stars next to Cade in the very near future, if the upward trajectory continues from last season. (Holland/Ausar/Ivey)

The thing that excites me the most about all of this, is the defensive potential. It is absolutely off the charts. We have all seen Cade get after it. He can be an above an above average defender, amd can switch all the way to the PF. You then have two defensive beasts, like Ausar/Holland able to play together? man o' man.

For now though, im sticking with Ausar. He is elite defensively.

It's Ron for me. Given Ausar's medical history, Ron's apparent steady progress, and their age difference he seems the safer choice with a potentially higher ceiling. That said, I'm so glad we can have a conversation about the possible dilemma posed by having two wings with elite athletic gifts on the roster. Ron possesses a fundamental trait of great players by having a first rate competitive work ethic. If the ball is in play, offense, defense, or transition he's competing. However, Ausar isn't short on effort either. I have always thought Ron with a jump shot was something special, and I guess Summer League made me hopeful the Pistons might have hit a homer. Barring tragic luck the coming season should be fun.
