No idea what the pool looks like, but this one’s my favorite.

Seems like enough top-end talent if you go back to the 60s.

AI creation of eight NBA eras for 1960-2025. My first thought was drafting one player from each era. But each manager being limited to two eras might make for more interesting strategy. Do you dive into more modern talent rich eras or go into a lesser era where you'll have less competition?

The Celtics Dynasty Era (1960-1969)

The ABA Merger and Turbulent Times (1970-1979)

The Magic vs. Bird Renaissance (1980-1989)

The Michael Jordan Dynasty (1990-1998)

The Post-Jordan Big-Man Era (1999-2007)

The Superteam and Perimeter Revolution (2008-2013)

The Warriors and Three-Point Revolution (2014-2019)

The Player Empowerment and Modern Era (2020-2025)
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

No Champions with First Team

Every player who won a ring with his first team is disqualified (e.g. Duncan, Magic, Bird, LeBron).

We can separate the timeframes to:
- Champion with another team - all players from 1960s and on are eligible
- No championship at all - 2000s to now only

Top end talent: Shaq, Durant, SGA, Davis, Garnett, Oscar, Dwight, McGrady, Luka, Harden, Butler, Embiid, Allen, Vince, CP3, Nash, Drexler etc.

What about a draft in which is upcoming draft pick must be of a larger jersey nunmber?

MEaning if Jayson Tatum was picked number 1 overall, the next player picked must have a number larger than 0.

Or an oddsie evensie draft.
Pick an odd numbered jersey in round 1 and an even number in round 2

A lot of people abhor drafts that require any kind of different research.

It’s really stifling these games and making them all feel the same.

Again, largely a symptom of how small a group we are. All it takes is a couple of people not feeling an idea and it’s kind of dead in the water.

I'm probably out for a while (again). Both due to general fatigue with respect to these games and just being too busy. I played in the last 2 to kind of give it another go but to be honest I haven't really enjoyed them all that much.

As someone who's been trying to get my family-themed draft off the ground for years - tell me about it.

I still like the Kardashian Jenner All Stars Draft idea. They've dated a combined 13 current or former NBA players, which would give us a great pool of players no matter how we slice it.

Kris Humphries, Lamar Odom, James Harden, Tristan Thompson, Rashad McCants, Blake Griffin, Ben Simmons, Devin Booker, D'Angelo Russell, Chandler Parsons, Jordan Clarkson, Kyle Kuzma and Rick Fox.

We could do:
-only players from teams that one of these players played for are eligible
-each of your picks has to be from a different team that a different one of these players played for (ie if you use Rick Fox for Lakers, then you can't use Lakers again for your team and you can't recycle Fox for Boston)
-only teammates of these players are eligible
-only players from a decade in which any of these players was active are eligible

PG-PF connection franchises draft

Oklahoma City

Dallas

Phoenix

Golden State

LA Clippers

Utah

New Orleans

Indiana

Milwaukee

Detroit

Top 3 may be pretty strong in Kawhi, Durant and Davis to play C.

Donut draft. Players must either be MVPs or never made all-NBA or all-star.

Would be interesting to see if any MVPs normally skipped would get picked.

Pretty sure we've done this before, although I don't remember what it was called.

We did a donut draft with respect to FGA, not accolades I don’t think.

I abstained. I’m all about those mid-cost guys.

I know, but we did another draft that was just MVP or nothing like what Laimbeer is suggesting.

Turns out it was aptly named the MVPs Draft...

It was pretty unbalanced, with the teams at the back of the order being able to put together some amazing combos. Four of the bottom five in the draft order made the semis.

I hated this draft. Was pretty difficult/impossible to compete there from the first pick.

Looking back, what really screwed that draft was limiting everyone to three MVPs. Theoretically there were 35 MVPs available, but only about 25 of those were players we'd normally pick, and the pool was very big-heavy. Guys like Dave Cowens and Wes Unseld don't suddenly become more valuable in a draft context because you put "MVP" next to their names. Two per team would have made it much fairer.

You can only select players who played at least one minute in three separate decades. You must select a season from the first decade or the last decade

We already did three decades draft without the last restriction

Should we do the 2010s? Can be a better fit for a larger group of participants if we're able to get there again
