Wait.. who's playing for the USA in this Eurobasket? Were they eliminated already? :o

The point is, Spain is always favored by the refs at EuroBasket. And it makes no sense now.

At least in the past, the whole "the refs always favor the best team" BS excuse could be used.

It can't be used now, and at this point, it's just rubbing it in the faces of the other teams, for no reason.

You're telling us that a team, who was favoured by referees, didn't get out of the group in which we had Georgia, Bosnia and Cyprus?

How a great player as Spanoulis was, can be such a bad coach?. I don't get It.

One of the worst teams of the tournament while having a Super star like Giannis.

Latvia , Litueva or Israel with less talent are much better teams.

Greece never played extraordinary well with Giannis. That's no knock on him. It's very difficult for most Euro guys to play with a dominant 4/5 like Giannis.

Greece doesn't have optimal pieces around him. There are no real pick and roll ball handling threats and most of the guys are decent but not great shooters.
So many people who attain the heights of power in this culture—celebrities, for instance—have to make a show of false humility and modesty, as if they got as far as they did by accident and not by ego or ambition.

Well Sloukas is one of the best pick and roll guards in Europe, unfortunately for us is 35 and pretty much alone

I get that Greece has no great talent to play around but.

Its always a way.
Cheating way
You have Dorsey ( a usa player) hell get a better one such a Holden (Russia) Larkin ( Turkey) Brown ( Spain) , pick a real Pg, Giannis with a real NBA talent Pg( someone like Cole Anthony, Coby White) if you are going to cheat do properly.

Legal ways.

The last 8 years Greece has sucked with Giannis, you have the f.g Shaq in FIBA rules.

The bust superfiba star known as Kenneth Faried terrified a World Cup , being a hustle guy

Greece should play a really slow pace system , Giannis at 5.
Iso after ISO after ISO .

Just running fast break if Giannis get the rebound.

I get that you don't get shooters, don't play that game. Be a huge team, defend and win 60-59 games .
Im not saying that you can win the gold medal with Giannis and 4 Friends.

But Greece should have done much better with him in the team.

We' ve seen Hernán Gómez and Brown winning a cup last time with a so so roster.

Yeah, he was, but he's really washed up. He only has a good game like once a month now.

Tyler Dorsey's mother is Greek. That's why Dorsey has a Greek passport. His situation is nothing like Holden, Larkin or Brown. His situation is more similar to Kaman or other expats. Sure, he counts as naturalized but the dude does have Greek background. It's just like Naz Mitrou-Long. The only difference here is that Mitrou-Long chose to add his mother's surname to his full name when he was 22 (hence, Mitrou-Long instead of the original Long) whereas Tyler Dorsey stayed with the surname assigned at birth (which was just his father's).

PS: Now, if you want to call Walkup's naturalization BS and cheating, I will agree. But Dorsey? Nah. The guy has Greek heritage.

Under FIBA's rules, Tyler Dorsey is not even supposed to be counted as a naturalized player. He's supposed to count as a native Greek player, under FIBA's rules. The reason he counts as a naturalized player, is because Greece screwed up his filing, when he was with the Greek youth national team.

Greece is shooting 46% from 3 point range during the tournament. If that's not enough shooting around Giannis for him to be able to get a medal, even a bronze, then it's basically nearly impossible to build a good FIBA team around him.

A team that is 4-1, won their group, and lost their only game by 2 points while resting their best player is one of the worst teams in the tournament?

I don't think Spanoulis is a good coach, especially this early in his coaching career, but calling Greece one of the worst teams is just strange.

Would be nice to see voting before the knockout begins and after all injuries to Serbia. Betting sites have Germany as favourite and Turkey on the 2nd place since they are on easier part od the bracket. Serbia is now 3rd.

Serbia not a clear favorite anymore as the current poll would suggest. Even betting sites are not aligned who's the favourite now. Turkey is 3rd on one site and 1st on another though that's because of the easier bracket. There is some parity, so knockout stage should be fun.

It's not just injuries. They ended on much more difficult part of the bracket because of their loss against Turkey.

Beating the heavily favored Serbs to trail against Sweden is traditionally turkish.

The guy that got the 3+1 for Sweden at the end of the half looks less of a basketball player than Joe Ingles, which is impressive.

They should beat Sweden, but Turkey is overrated after beating Serbia with incredible 3pts shooting and fantastic game by Larkin. Those 2 things won't happen on constant basis.

Just for the record, i think Spanoulis is a very good coach.
If you want to try to measure the elements of basketball that are supposedly unmeasurable, spend a game just watching Marc Gasol.

Sweden is the team i think that should treat this tourney as the "spark" to really promote/improve basketvall in their xountry.

Getting to the round of 16, slugging toe-to-toe with Turkey... i mean they should feel good and confisent that with more improvement, they can belong to the big boys.

They have big guys, they got scorers, they got guards... they probably need big wings aka PF but they look good.
