Its crazy that the Bulls gave Patrick Williams 5/90 before he even hit free agency. Dude is a borderline NBA player. They apparently learned their lesson.

I thought paying Pat was ridiculous but there were those who defend the mistake.

The offer from the Bulls is probably fair given the new CBA realities and given Giddey has no leverage since no one else has cap space. The deal would start around $20M/season. I'm not sure there are many teams (if any) that will pay him significantly more than what Chicago is offering. Maybe he could get a deal starting closer to $23-$25M a season (4-years, ~$110M)depending how he plays in the coming season.

If he signs the QO, I guess he'd make like $11M instead of $20M, which means even if he got 4-years, $110M next year, he'd "only" make ~$5M more over the 4-year period. Yeah, if he waited a year and signed a deal in the $110M range, he'd have a "5th" year at ~$31-$32M guaranteed, but a new deal he'd sign would likely reduce that difference to something like ~$5-$10M depending on his progression.

So, roughly Giddey would be giving up around $15M in total if he signs the deal Chicago is offering. I don't think that's worth risking playing a season at the QO. I'd just negotiate a PO into year 4. If Giddey proves his worth, he'll get his contract without having to risk losing ~$77M by signing the QO.

Doesn't play a lick of defense and will never be capable of it.

Based on how important 2 way players became these last 2 Finals and the responses in this thread, Giddey is massively slurped on. All for putting empty stats on a bad team while being booted from a contender.

Betting on himself would be 2 yr $44 million. Get some money, but not the QO.
Brad Stevens on fans who want the Celtics to tank: "I don’t think they’ll like me all that much then."

He's improved every year, he's not stopping now. Still very young. He's got the potential to be an All-NBA player.

That’s around a top 50 contract in the league. Is he….will he be a top 50 player?

Actually at 22m per year,it's top80.
Top50 ends with Immanuel Quickley at 32.5m per year.

Yes thanks. Math error on my part. I read 2/66.
Yes 3/66 or 4/88 or something in that neighborhood is probably fair.

The only players that are getting overpaid are the top of the top. Giddey is going to regret passing up $22 million per year, new environment under the new CBA.

but there are also examples of guy winning their QO bets.

Just curious - who?

Jimmy Butler did something like that. He rejected an early offer to extend his contract. Not a QO though.

Greg Monroe signed a QO in 2014 and then a max contract with the Bucks the following summer. Ben Gordon signed a QO, then a 5 yr contract, though not quite a max. Not many have done so well, but then not many take the QO.

He's probably looking at the deals RJ Barrett, Jalen Suggs, Jabari Smith, Devin Vassel got, deals in the 25-30 million range, and thinking why don't I deserve that?

Meanwhile, Alex Caruso signed a 4 year 81 million dollar extension and they got straight up swapped for 1 year ago.

The Chicago Bulls initial offer to restricted free agent Josh Giddey was reportedly $80 million over four seasons. The Bulls have upped that offer to $88 million over four years, according to ESPN's Bobby Marks. That's still off from what Giddey has been looking for on a new contract.

Giddey has reportedly been looking for a contract that averages closer to $30 million per season. The 22-year-old guard has also been looking at five-year deals.

Giddey has until October 1 to sign his $11.1 million qualifying offer. After that, Giddey would be subject an extension of the qualifying offer from the Bulls, or to agree to another form of contract. If Giddey signs the qualifying offer, he'll get a one-year no-trade clause, because he would lose his Bird rights if traded.

This is great offer; he should take it. Don't compare with other players who are same level as you or even inferior than you, but still making more money than you; like Green or Quickley etc. Rockets and Raptors were stupid to overpay for those players; now teams are getting smarter.

Secure the bag and agree is what his agent needs to tell him.

He’s not that bad of a defender.

And a big PG is never an insurmountable defensive liability. Look at Magic and Luka.

Being honest, I'm kind of surprised that Chicago isn't getting it done at something like $100/4.

If he signs his Qualifying Offer, I would be very interested in trading for him, as a Minnesota fan. Not sure he would agree to waive his No-Trade Clause to come here, but the following starting line-up interests me:
Josh Giddey / Anthony Edwards / Jaden McDaniels / Julius Randle / Rudy Gobert

Also assuming it's escalating, it's more like top 100. Would start at around $18m, which would be right next to #99 Lu Dort at $17.7m:
