They should just burn it down and start over with one of the best-stocked farm systems instead of one of the worst. Just like with basketball, being a .500 team is not good. But at least with basketball, a single player, or maybe 2 players, and a little luck, can turn around your fortunes fast. Much harder to do in baseball, like you could put prime Verlander on this team and they'd still be struggling.

Problem is it's not like the NBA where in one or two drafts, you can get a couple of all star or better players.

Nor does a single player dominate a game as easily as in the NBA, though of course you have some pitchers making legendary post-season runs,

MLB draft goes over 10 rounds I believe so a team has dozens of players in the farm system the it's trying to develop.

Some teams have tried innovative development techniques, using technology and analytics. Giants aren't one of those teams so maybe there's something to it since their farm system has been poor now for going on 15 years if not longer.

Another problem is that determining whether a prospect can hit major league pitching is probably one the hardest skill-sets to develop and predict in all of sports.
It's not like they have combine analytic that can measure whether you can hit a 95 mph sinker or whatever. I think baseball is the hardest of any sport to predict player outcomes.

Giants have gotten hot, winning 9 of their last 10, with Devers and Chapman driving in some runs lately.

Of course this is long after they sold at the trade deadline.

With 21 games left, it's still unlikely as they're 4 games behind in WC and 6 games behind the Dodgers in the NL West and 4 games behind the Padres in the WC.

Both teams are struggling but I think the Dodgers have been managing their roster so that they have all their players back around the end of the season and going into the playoffs. With that loaded roster, they should start playing well again. I don't trust teams like the Brewers, Cubs, Mets or Phillies to beat them, unfortunately.

But for the Giants, maybe if they finish the season well, a few games over .500, whether or not they get into the playoffs, maybe the ownership and front office will be encouraged to spend more in free agency.

They gave Chapman a long contract and of course assumed Devers' huge contract. Even with the better hitting lately, they're still 23rd or 24th in team batting average, 19th in HRs and 18th in RBIs.

They still need more professional hitters and they likely will have to go out of the organization to get it.

Besides Tucker being the big free agent, there are 3 big Japanese players who may be available, all under the age of 28 IIRC.
