The window to Waive and stretch a contract for this season is already closed.

A waive and stretch would be stupid anyways. Boston wants clean books for 2026-7 when they're going to start trying again. Lowering their small luxury tax bill for this season is nice but not at the cost of future resources.

If Cam ever gets a contract above the MLE I’ll be very surprised. Maybe he wants out of Brooklyn because they just took 3 young, big point guards and plan to baptize them by fire. Maybe he just feels disrespected. Maybe a lot of things.

He can get his own shot at an elite level, and hits contested shots at a near elite level. But… almost all his shots are contested, because he’s pretty small and a limited athlete. His defense is terrible. His passing is terrible. Everything but his shot creation, draw rate and shot-making (average) is pretty much terrible.

On a good night, he gives you 30 and only gives up 25. On a bad night, he kills your team on both ends. His on/off, before last year’s limited sample, was absolutely awful even while playing on bad teams. He’s highly entertaining and is a nice tank commander, but nothing about his game looks like winning basketball in large samples.

Brooklyn will be better off without him. The team that signs him next year will almost certainly regret it, even if he’s cheap. I know I’ve made a post like this before, but this is a great litmus test for a GM. I’d instantly fire the idiot that gives him anything more than 2/25 next season. I can’t think of any team or situation in which he’s a quality signing at that price.
