Seems more ridiculous to me to give a rebound a gender in the first place.
Making extreme statements like "only" sounds like there are "no" Jokics in this draft? Jokic is an engine that was drafted in the 2nd round. Always a chance to see diamond dropped by sloppy burgular after a theft.

I dunno. It’s one way to get balls.

Hope there'll be another trade -- but not to make us better this year, at least not much better, since we cannot afford to lose what will be one of the top picks in a very strong draft.

I watched the local feeds. Pittsburgh in a thriller over Green Bay and Baltimore blew it vs. Buffalo.

I'm afraid a few of them actually do have balls. I heard that the main star has a groin injury.

I still say there's nothing short of deliberately tanking that should keep this team terrible. How can the team keep making incremental improvements and remain lousy?payitforward wrote:Hope there'll be another trade -- but not to make us better this year, at least not much better, since we cannot afford to lose what will be one of the top picks in a very strong draft.
The young guys want to be competitive (and win).

Tanking is at the front office level. The coaching staff and the players are usually not involved. The roster is constructed so that unless outlier development is seen in multiple prospects the tank should occur naturally. Mids & C.J. aren't likely playing after the all-star break even if they are still here. The kids should be able to go as hard as they want and we'll max out at 20-24 wins. We can fight for the playoffs in '26-'27.

Re: Official Trade Thread Part XLVII
When the ball is thrown up everybody plays to win.
As to improving this year vs last year's 18 wins, it doesn't look all that likely to me.
Keep in mind that we've gotten younger not older this year!
Valanciunas & Holmes -- two productive veterans -- are gone.
What would it take?
1. Alex Sarr will have to be MUCH better. I mean really a lot.
2. Tre Johnson will have to have a strong rookie season.
3. McCollum will have to get back to his '23-24 numbers, which were quite good. He was terrible last year.
4. Whitmore must take Kispert's minutes & be meaningfully better than his first 2 seasons.
5. Bilal, Bub & Kyshawn will have to show significant improvement.
If all of the above happens, & at optimal levels, & Justin doesn't lose minutes, I guess it could put our pick in jeopardy. Theoretically.

True but you should compare us to our pace post Kuzma trade, ie better than 18 wins.

So you’re saying 20?

No worries. Look at the absolutely ruthless tank job the FO pulled on the Mystics. From 16-18 and strongly in the playoff race to 16-28. Traded Sykes and others. Winger will not let it happen. He has a plan - it might or might not work - but he’s sticking to it.

Michael Winger, Jamilla Wideman, and Sydney Johnson are playing 3-D chess while the rest of the WNBA is struggling to play checkers.
The Mystics' plan is surely working. They're guaranteed to get a top-4 pick and the #8 pick in this upcoming 2026 draft.
It wouldn't surprise me if Washington bought low on an Angel Reese trade.

Actually, from Feb 1 (i.e. just before the trade) to Mar 15, we went 9-10. Then we closed the season 3-13 -- including the last-game last-second win. IOW, we know how to lose when we need to lose!

I feel strongly that it was at the coaching level, last year anyway.
And yes, if Middleton and CJ are still here, they will have some magical injuries to end the season.
I think Keefe is full-in with the rebuild the way the FO wants to do it. That doesn't mean he doesn't prepare the team, work on player development and insist on effort from whomever is on the court. He just plays the vets just enough to lose (IMO).
