Last eurobasket Giannis averaged 4 -three point bricks a game. This year sub 1 a game.

Those fluff jumpshot attempts by him were replaced by strong cuts and rim attacking from better angles. Coaching plays role in this. I remember watching him in that pre- Olympics tournament, and he played nothing like he plays now in terms of role.

He averaged s*** loud amount of points in past as well, on very high efficiency since guy is athletic 6'11 monster, but this version of him is way more effective than him taking terrible looking jumpshots. His TS on this tournament is 75%. That is +10% from last eurobasket.

Too bad he will waste his prime on first round exit team(s) for rest of his good days. Maybe that's why he plays like madman now, knowing this is last serious basketball he will play until world cup 2027 :dontknow:

Greece Vs Turkey
Germany Vs Gorgia

Germany beats Greece for gold
Georgia and Turkey for bronze doesn't finish due to fight breaking out, Forqan will get a black eye, Goga will be missing a tooth.

France stopped being serious contender once their final roster was announced.

They were third in odds and some NBA players didn't even make their roster.

But it is true that this team might not be good. Are guys like Risacher and Coulibaly good? I know they play in the NBA, but that does not really make them good right now, they are young, they also players who were just role players on mid Euro teams year or two ago. Talented sure, but are they already good? We know guys like Francisco, Shengelia or Yabu are good, they are seasoned and proven, but this France has a lot of guys who are just starting to figure out stuff and it showed a bit. This is still an old mans game quite a bit.

The team construction was awful since the beginning, especially after they lost Strazel and then the last nail on the coffin was Sarr's injury of course.
Going to the euro with 2 true C, one of them being a rotation C in Euroleague and not at all a rim protector/mobile one, + no real backcourt defenders = you can't win anything.
Fautoux wanted a backcourt that could "create offense and its own points" so he selected guys like Okobo who can't D and has 1 move which is dribbling the air out of the ball until he tries an elbow mid-range.

Combination of both above factors resulted yesterday in at least 7 straight layups drives on half-court for the Georgians and 3pts chuck fest.

No other plan in offense than move the ball left and right in the backcourt until you launch a 3 with the 20th team in 3pts %.

Francisco was nice on this tournament, one of the only one to be able to penetrate and disturb defenses to open things a bit. Maledon could not hit a shot and it seemed that he had no specific directions to organize the game which is something he might be able to do for this NT.

To me the real issue that should have been addressed by the coach was the lack of hierarchy and the constant foul trouble.
Some guys were asked to pressure too much and to sacrifice themselves, resulting in silly hand fouls, forcing the coach to play them 2 to 3 minutes and then be sub again because they are in foul trouble.
You can't get any kind of rhythm when playing like this, which results in no confidence and shots not falling.

The coaching staff has carries the biggest part of responsibilities on this disappointing loss.

Finland and Georgia being one of the Quarterfinal pairings means that one of them will make it to the Semis and will, at worst, finish 4th. That would be the first time in their history that either of these countries make it to a Semi-finals in any international basketball competition. It's going to be a major point of reference for whoever advances.

If you told me before tournament that Finland will be in the top 4, I would not have been that shocked. Georgia I would have, that would be amazing for them, tho they have 3 really high caliber players in Toko, Mamu and Goga and their naturalized PG is good also, so it aint a bad team.

Out of these, I would pick Finland.

I think Greece will beat Lithuania, hope I am wrong
Türkiye should beat Poland
Germany should beat SLovenia

so Imagine Greece vs Türkiye and Germany vs Finland semifinals, but I alwyas cheer for the underdogs so I will root for complete opposite to happen, but if I had to guess, those would be my picks, which is pretty strong top 4 even withot Serbia and France. Türkiye. Greece and Germany are all elite Euro teams still.

It took 1/24 from 3 from good shooters for the game to be close, once 3P% adjusted it was a total blow out.

Germany is best team in a tournament, and in theory they have easier side of the bracket, but they face Luka next, lots of things can happen there, If Slovenian commoners hit their open 3s, that stuff will be interesting.

I found out something weird.
In Turkish and Arabic, we use the word Nemca for Austria, according to Google the word is of slavic origin, in Slovenian, they use this word for Germany instead and call Austria with its original name.
