If that one report that came out recently is even half true. The dude won’t be in the league in 5 years. If he has a bad year this year, his seat is going to get hot. And he’ll only have 1 more year before the Bears move on from him. I mean just look at Bryce Young. He’s in year 3 and it seems like he’s barely hanging onto being a starter in this league. And that dude is supposed to be the ultimate A+ guy off the field.
I need to see him with a competent run game. The Bears have by far the worst running game in the league. And no offense to Jack but Rome is looking like a borderline bust. The man cannot separate. He reminds me of OJ McDuffie out there which is fine but he can't run. The skill positions are not good.
But that’s the thing though. Before the season started last year, the talk was “is this the best situation ever for a #1 overall pick?” Then it completely tanked and the talking points were, “oh Rome’s just a rookie”, “Keenan Allen is washed”, “the O line sucks”.
Keenan’s first game back with Herbert, he puts up 70 yards and a touchdown. Maybe the O line just sucked because Caleb held the ball longer than anyone else in the league. Like I forgot the stat, but I believe I saw somewhere that for the first 3 seconds, Caleb had like bottom 5 in the league in pressure rate. But his overall pressure rate was so high because he held the ball so much longer than anyone else. And you can’t expect a clean pocket for more than 2.5-3 seconds.
I just think he’s a guy that has some very rare skills. But his flaws are catastrophic flaws. And this is coming from as big of a Caleb homer/fan as there was after his sophomore year in college.
