It hurts seeing what Schwarber's doing in PHI. Who would have thought that he'd turn out so good?

Good for Dansby!
Horton still dealing at Coors field.
Let’s get a sweep.

Yeah he's been a lot better lately. Hope it continues.

So if season ended today Cubs would be top Wildcard team and play Padres at Wrigley best of 3?

Re: OT: Cubs Offseason Thread
Another win tonight. Still 5 games back of MIL, but with 80 wins, they're tied for second most in MLB. Just their luck the best team happens to be in the same division. Better than the Dodgers right now.

Re: OT: Cubs Offseason Thread
Poor showing by the Cubs this weekend. I guess they have a wildcard spot just about locked up, and aren't likely to catch MIL, so not that much to play for, but losing 2 of 3 to a sad sack team like WAS at home is just weak.

Cubs officially have an ACE!
Horton is the best pitcher in baseball.
What a weird season. So many ups and downs.

Since the ASB he certainly is.
By far best pitcher on the Cubs since then too.
He probably sealed ROY tonight.

Maybe. I dunno the stats. I kinda doubt it though. I might look it up in a minute. But Grandpa Boyd has been better across ~145ish games.
Cade is awesome and I'm happy for you guys. PCA looks like the worst CF in baseball since the ASB, so I might not look at those post-ASB stats too closely. I was just reacting to the hyperbole. Skubal and Crochet are I think the best pitchers in baseball. The Phillies Cristopher Sanchez looks like the best pitcher in the NL and possibly even MLB this year. Logan Webb is my favorite pitcher and he's still doing his thing.
There are several free agent aces available next offseason and I'd hope, if I were a Cubs fan, they'd sign one of them and re-sign Tucker. Trade for a more sustainable catcher. Cubs have a real shot at another WS, I'd be happy to see it. Missing a few pieces though.

I watch the Cubs and I definitely track the stats...your guy Boyd is a better pitcher as it stands. Boyd is 34 and Cade is 24 but, again, hyperbole. I might say "Colson Montgomery is the best shortstop in baseball" and I'd probably be making a more accurate statement. Cade isn't close.

I’m not saying Horton is the best pitcher in baseball. I’m saying he’s the best since the ASG.
One might say he’s the hottest pitcher in baseball and most likely ROY.
Funny enough Boyd hasn’t pitched well at all since the ASG.

Re: OT: Cubs Offseason Thread
speaking of the cubs, there's some fake news making the rounds that Nico Hoerner and Charlie Kirk were buds. Not offering any input on this situation, just that it's a made up story. It's sort of like how Tyson Bagent donated his entire salary to the homeless or Kyle Schwarber paid off the debt of some random restaurant. These AI stories are ****' weird but becoming kind of specific and seem sort of "reasonable".

the kid is fine but if the cubs are serious about contending, re-sign Tucker and sign a proper SP

Who knows with Tucker. He could be a massive overpay. When him and PCA are on the Cubs are dangerous but we’ve seen way too much to suggest that isn’t the norm.
I think Wiggons will be their key SP and much like Horton coming up this year will help.
Thank God we didn’t trade the farm for a SP like Gire who tanked and then got injured.

Good points. But I'd maybe look in the offseason to trade one of Alcantara or Caissie plus some smaller pieces for a guy who is more "ready now". I'm biased, but I think a Luis Robert trade makes sense for both teams. His bat was coming around before he got hurt again. I speculate he has a phantom injury right now because there's nothing to play for. An outfield of Robert, PCA, Tucker would have a bunch of power plus the best defense in the league. LuBob probably doesn't get hurt as much if he's moved to a corner and spells PCA in center every so often. I'd like Alcantara on the Sox personally. Fits with the timeline. His defense seems redundant to PCA.
Then pay for a real starter in free agency like Framber Valdez or Ranger Suarez. Maybe take a flyer on a cheaper player on a "prove it" deal like former Cub Dylan Cease or Zac Gallen or Zach Eflin who seem to have the profile to do well at homer-friendly Wrigley. Lots of good starters in free agency this year.
I think y'all have to pay up in free agency. The Cubs have a really good team but need to keep Tucker, who might be an overpay, but it's not like he's Benintendi, he has a long track record of success. Cubs have a high payroll but are making so much revenue these days with the Ricketts consolidation of Wrigleyville assets, they should be spending like Philly or Toronto. Unfortunately we're still dealing with JR on the south side. But the Cubs are very close. I root for the Brewers in the National League but I'm thinking if the stars align, the Cubs could make the World Series this year. They should build on this momentum!!
